À propos de ce contenu audio
For thirty-one years Dot Plimsoll has taken the minutes of the Upper Fenwick Parish Council, and for thirty-one years she has never written down what actually happened. Minutes record decisions. They do not record who cried, who stormed out, or who was found asleep behind the tea urn.
Then comes the year the village falls apart in public. The hall roof is giving up. A developer is waving a cheque that is far too generous. Anonymous letters signed 'A Concerned Resident' are landing on doormats. The memorial bench has lost its plaque, the village sign has been stolen in the night, and the chairman has gone on sick leave, leaving Dot, who must stay neutral at all costs, to keep a village of strong opinions in one room.
Told through twelve monthly meetings and a handful of extraordinary ones, each chapter gives you the official minute and then the truth: the feuds, the biscuits, the secret kindnesses and the one small crime at the heart of it all. Along the way Dot discovers that the person who has kept everyone else's story straight might finally be allowed one of her own.
A warm, dry, funny audiobook for anyone who has ever sat through a meeting that could have been an email and loved every second of it. A comic novel of English village life.
