Description

Widow Rosalinde Wilde is on her way to her beloved sister's wedding when an unexpected storm waylays her at an overcrowded inn. There she meets a tempting stranger who sweeps her into a night of unforgettable passion.

Grayson Danford never expected a night with the irresistible Mrs. Wilde, but she was a welcome distraction from the unpleasant duty of breaking up his brother's impending nuptials.

He's shocked when he discovers his passionate lover is none other than the sister of his brother's intended.

Now Rosalinde and Gray will butt heads, even as their simmering desire for each other threatens to boil over. Who will win? And who might lose it all?

It was in winter? Oh, yah, it was.

Either way it was very enjoyable. A tad slow.... a simple plot.... but enjoyable.

It was well performed with the single exception of "dowager" being "dowanger " with that irritant set aside it was good narration.

It was hot and steamy too!

I do not agree with Karen (last reviewer)

Had I read her review I would have perhaps not purchased this book. However, after reading it I purchased the next in line. Yes they do repeat her bad marriage etc, but I would be the first to have zero patience for repetition and this story only mentioned that when it was needed. The reviewer goes on to talk about Mary Balogh. Now that is a writer who can eliminate about 1/2 her stories loaded with mind babble and repetitions,to end up with a good book.
I liked this book. So much so that I finished it all in a day. It was real and the reader can feel the despair the sisters felt. I am not crazy about the picture on the cover (silly look on his face and she is not the dropped jaw gorgeous heroine described in the book). Fabulous narrator!

slutty widow+horny jerk=sexy mess

What disappointed you about An Affair in Winter?

There was no real story. It was a lot of navel gazing and repeating of the same thing. I am half way through and it is the 8th time someone has explained the widows bad marriage. How many times do they have to explain that the marriage was bad to have the reader understand the marriage was bad. I can just keep repeating the marriage was bad, the marriage was bad, the marriage was bad. That takes care of the first half of the novel's plot.
I use to really like this author, but she has gone downhill in her writing. She doesn't even bother to do any character development after she has the h/h have sex. Then it's just a series of sexual encounters that take the place of character development.

What could Jess Michaels have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It would be nice if the h/h aren't the most beautiful people on earth and that their attraction is the only thing they have in common. This book is even faster than most modern relationships. The h/h have sex after having dinner in the second chapter and they expect it to be a one night stand. This could just as easily be a contemporary novel.
I am not sure why she places them in regency times. This is a modern story and it is outside of the era.

Which character – as performed by Danielle O'Farrell – was your favorite?

I have increased the speed to move the book along, so am not getting the best from her voices. It's the bad story that is driving the speed, as I am trying to get to any part of this novel that might be interesting.

What character would you cut from An Affair in Winter?

Nothing can help this novel. I just don't understand the point of the story. Everyone seems to have an issue with all the other people in the novels, so you just get a lot of negativity.

Any additional comments?

I think I bought this book to act as a time filler until the next mary balogh /lisa kleypas novel.
I wish some better author's back catalogue would be on audible.com. Or some books like Amanda Quick can be re-recorded with better narrators, so that the books can be enjoyed.

Enjoyable with a sweet HEA.

A good, sexy story. Narrator OK but her men's voices sound very nasal. Otherwise good

An Affair In winter

This Romantic historical book was entertaining. It gave me an insight into the practice of keeping women powerless in that time.

Found myself skipping chapters

It was just ok. Danielle did not narrate the male voices well and the women sound a little dumb. Also, the Heroine seemed a bit stupid with her continued affair with no real thought to the consequences. It was also too long for the premise. Grayson's dislike of Cecile seemed a bit forced and he came across as a jerk. The grandfather was a was openly cruel and in public and made one wonder why did he want a grandchild to get a title? Just because his daughter married below her station? It made no sense, It was not as if he wanted acceptance from the Ton. It was just because he could. It was just a meh story that was too long.

Regency one night stand.... really...cringe...

I must say I didn’t give that book much of a chance, I switched off after an hour or so of listening. It was just too ridiculous to continue and waste my time: heroine arrives at the busy Inn and being the most gorgeous woman in a world attracts attention of every man in the dining hall, she dines in the common room and shares the table with mysterious stranger who fancies the pants out of her, they talk for hours and when the dinning room empties out they proceed upstairs and make passionate love all though the night.....and even love making wasn’t very inspiring.

I am not a stickler for historical accuracy and gladly overlook any wrong factual details that are out of time period in favour of the good storyline but this was just too much, it felt soooo out of period it could be happening in space where aliens are dressed in regency costumes...

Nice Start To A New Series

This was an enjoyable book. I liked how the story was developed and the introduction of the supporting characters, enticing you to be sure and get Seasons 2.

I enjoyed Danielle O'Farrell as well.

Pretty good

Not revolutionary in terms of romance novels, but there were a few unique things that set this apart. I liked that the author embraced the fact that this is a romance novel and created enough fantasy so that the reader has a fun read while having enough reality and historic accuracy that this isn't completely unrealistic. I also liked that she chose a widow instead of a young inexperienced virgin. I feel like there are too many romances about the virginal heroine protecting her virginity.

I was pleasantly surprised.

I randomly picked this book because it suggested that I would like it...I loved it. I can't wait until the other ones come out
