Histoire
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing, and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Histoire
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Description
Now a TV Series produced by FremantleMedia North America available internationally on Amazon, exclusively through Prime Video and starring Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane, Emily Browning, and Pablo Schreiber.
Locked behind bars for three years, Shadow did his time, quietly waiting for the day when he could return to Eagle Point, Indiana. A man no longer scared of what tomorrow might bring, all he wanted was to be with Laura, the wife he deeply loved, and start a new life.
But just days before his release, Laura and Shadow's best friend are killed in an accident. With his life in pieces and nothing to keep him tethered, Shadow accepts a job from a beguiling stranger he meets on the way home, an enigmatic man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday. A trickster and a rogue, Wednesday seems to know more about Shadow than Shadow does himself.
Life as Wednesday's bodyguard, driver, and errand boy is far more interesting and dangerous than Shadow ever imagined. Soon Shadow learns that the past never dies...and that beneath the placid surface of everyday life a storm is brewing - an epic war for the very soul of America - and that he is standing squarely in its path.

A storm is coming
[EN] I dived into this book to get ready for the TV show adaptation and I don't regret it! I found that some parts in the middle of the book were a bit too slow but overall I really enjoyed it. The characters are very unique and they're one of the main reasons I loved this story.
The interpretation is pretty great. The only downside for me was that it was hard at times to follow without seeing the characters' names in writing (though it may be mainly because I'm not a native English speaker).

Hmmm something was missing
I don't know, the book was fine but I kept feeling something else was missing, it didn't really trap me, maybe there were too many elements taking place but something quite not made it for me. It could have been a different, more intimate story, but there was too much information it became confusing and meh. Ok in general I guess.

I liked how integrated this all felt while listening and how much perspective of day to day life changed for me towards the end.

Inventive story with a bonus treat
American Gods is an enjoyable, rather wild trip through America and international myths and mythologies. It's fun and exciting, but rather longish at times. That might be due to the audiobook adaptation as well - there are a lot of pauses, long pauses. Reading the novel is a tour de force for the presenter, which is probably why his breathing is quite dominant sometimes. It's a good performance on the whole, but not perfect. A nice treat is the bonus interview with the author Neil Gaiman at the end though.

Brilliant and amazing!
I fell utterly in love with the book, so I couldn't wait for the series! When it aired I just had to buy the audio version as well & I am delighted, how perfectly they had chosen the speaker, and how beautifully he carried out his job.
I got lost in time as it almost felt ethereal - so out of this world, but still so connected to modern lifestyle and the great plague of the 21 century: loneliness & searching for a purpose - oftentimes through identifying with various religions/believe systems.
