    Apart from the masterful way Remarque presents and develops the events of the story, this novel is a lesson, one given to us way ahead of its time...a lesson we constantly fail to learn. War!

    Tom Lawrence does a great job in setting up the different moods found in different parts of the book. He also does an excellent job in giving voice (in a way) to the emotions expressed by the characters, or the context.
