Description

This program is read by the author.

In a series of personal essays, prominent journalist and LGBTQIA+ activist George M. Johnson explores his childhood, adolescence, and college years in New Jersey and Virginia. From the memories of getting his teeth kicked out by bullies at age five, to flea marketing with his loving grandmother, to his first sexual relationships, this young-adult memoir weaves together the trials and triumphs faced by Black queer boys.

Both a primer for teens eager to be allies as well as a reassuring testimony for young queer men of color, All Boys Aren't Blue covers topics such as gender identity, toxic masculinity, brotherhood, family, structural marginalization, consent, and Black joy. Johnson's emotionally frank style of writing will appeal directly to young adults.

Love it

I love this im so sorry the things that he had to go through as a gay black man and while I can't relate it has helped me to understand where others are coming from. I live in a very homophobic country and I have pride my self in never being or acting like that and I can't understand why people treats others so badly because of their sexuality. I stand...

Amazing start to finish

From the very start I loved the book and the honesty in it. Funny at some parts and heartbreaking at others - this book taught me more about the lgbt community and their struggles. He didn’t hold back on anything which was time very intense but necessary to mold the sorry. Only one thing I would change is the narration because sometimes he would read a little too fast. But it didn’t take away from the story and message. I loved this book so much.

Honest, Courageous and Sincere

My goodness this memoir was amazing! Kudos to the author for his transparency, authenticity and truth telling! I’m grateful for books such as this because his story was relatable. While I am not queer, as a black women who is relatively close in age to the author, I could relate to so much of his experiences. Thank you so so much for this. I highly recommend this book to all!!

Brilliant

A very insightful memoir from George. He really pulls you into his soul as you experience what it’s like to be a child and young adult who doesn’t fit into society’s gender expectations.

Amazing

A story that must be told. A hidden struggle so many of us face, told with honesty, vulnerability and sensitivity. It was an honour to hear George’s story and I’m so grateful.
