Description
"I have no idea what is truth and what is fiction. I'm all I've got now. I can't trust anyone."
World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They've survived for the last 30 years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there.
At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life.
When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.
Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she's trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.

I enjoyed listening to it.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I enjoyed listening to After the End, and at first I was enjoying the story. The character of Miles is very funny as he tries to understand Juno's actions, so I found myself laughing out loud at time. There is some mystery to the story, but just wasn't enough to make me want to listen to the next book in the series. I was also disappoint that the first book didn't have an ending. I think a first book in a series should have an ending to it, but have just enough mystery to have the reader hoping the author will write another one. This book did not, it just ended like every other chapter before it.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It didn't have an ending.
Which scene was your favorite?
I really did enjoy the scene with Miles and Juno out in the forest when she hunts for food, very funny.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Probably not.

Interesting but do your research
Any additional comments?
Kind of a fun story but, do your research. Alaska doesn't have snakes. Also, Alaska is remote but a "clan" couldn't hide around Denali for over 17 years undetected.

An Alaskans review
Well, let's get my one critique out of the way- as an Alaskan, most of the Alaska references in this book are the kind of BS. Just as an example, if you go south towards the ocean from Denali, you end up on the wrong side of the Sound- the road goes around it, but if she doesn't know there's a city there, it'd be pretty unlikely for her to go around via Wasilla Palmer. Yeah...not sure if this was written by someone who has just visited or never left Anchorage. Sorry to break this to you, but a girl with black straight hair in furs would not be out of place in even major Alaskan cities.
As a fantasy, the story is entertaining, with good characters. Just wish I didn't have to keep face palming when the narrator said something especially ignorant.

I wonder what they thought jets were?
What disappointed you about After the End?
As the tribe lives near Denali, one wonders what they thought those noisy planes were. There were too many flaws in this book to read any others in the series.

truly horrible to listen to
What disappointed you about After the End?
The main character has NO CHARACTER at all. It was impossible to like anything about her.
What could Amy Plum have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Burn the book and start over. I loved her die for me series. This was just plain awful.
And a total let down.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
She is monotoned through the entire book. Her reading this book defiantly makes my distaste much worse.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from After the End?
The concept was fairly good, but the line (find my clan) was like being poked with needles. I think I cringed every time she said it.
Any additional comments?
Borrow this book, don't buy it.

surprisingly very good read .
What made the experience of listening to After the End the most enjoyable?
This was a big surprise for me. Once I read and heard the storyline I was very captivated from the moment I started to listen to the first 5 min. So I thought I have a credit I am going to try it. Well , 9 hours later I realized that I read it straight through and could not put it down. Now I haven't ever written a review before but, I had to with this book. It has such a great storyline and the plot is amazing. The constant adventure was invigorating. I thought I had it figured out but the twist and turns were keeping me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed the main character Juno so much. She is so brave and yet so sheltered by what her who life was about.
What other book might you compare After the End to and why?
Divergent, Agenda 21, These books all have that what if we did this instead of how we really live. The idea of what can happen when you experiment on humans. Like we become the lab rat.I like to hear how other people think about what life would be like if we did this .
What about Emily Rankin and Graham Hamilton ’s performance did you like?
I am a very avid Audio Book reader, reading about 3 to 4 a week. I think they did an excellent job and sometimes this is hard to find.I like the fact that they used two people to share a storyline not a man trying to sound like a girl or a girl trying to sound like a man . I dislike this as a practice. They did it just right.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I saw the book and gave it a chance and I couldn't put it down.I never herd of Amy Plum the author before this.
Any additional comments?
I was upset how the book ended. I really hope it doesn't take too long to write the second book. I know I will definitely be waiting for it. It's not a bad ending but I just wanted more.

Keep you beliefs grounded in fact
Keep you beliefs grounded in fact. Questions and confirm what you are told. Otherwise, you could find yourself alone, confused and unable to connect with what it is that you love.
After the End is a fast paced and well constructed story that I thoroughly enjoyed even to the abrupt end. Some have complained about the end of this story. I disagree with that complaint. I would rather an abrupt ending like this than one that drones on only for purpose of setting up the sequel (e.g., Gone Girl). I'm satisfied with the story of Juneau as presented in After the End. If there is a sequel let me pre-order it now.

Lies and betrayal!
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Years of lies and an a mysterious abduction takes Juneau halfway across the US in an attempt to find out what happened to her clan. And we're ALL in for a surprise.
Plot: After the End opens by transporting the reader to a different world. World War III has destroyed most of the US, only Juneau and her clan are able to continue to survive because they are closest to the Earth's life force. From there, the book quickly goes through an abduction of her clan, and her quest to find out what happened to them. Even though the pacing was slow, I felt like a LOT of things were happening. I would have liked to have learned more about Juneau's upbringing and also more time on her trying to make sense of modern cities. Nonetheless, the overall mystery was intriguing enough to keep me listening to the end. Unfortunately, the ending left me with more questions than I had answers.
Characters: The novel is told through the view point of the two main characters, Miles and Juneau. I preferred Juneau's POV mostly because I enjoyed her as a character. I liked that she was strong but also vulnerable. Plus, she could gut a rabbit without blinking an eye - I want her on my team in a post-apocalyptic world! Miles, on the other hand, I wasn't sold on. In the beginning chapters, Miles is presented as a punk kid who brings weed to school and cheats on tests. Maybe it was due to the narrator, but I didn't get the "punk kid" vibe from him, he actually sounded really mature for an 18 year old. Clearly there HAS to be some sort of romance between our two teenagers, but it was really light, and when "the kiss" finally happened, it sort of seemed out of nowhere. The novel focused so much on the mystery of Juneau's people, that it was difficult to squeeze a proper romance in as well. There are some secondary characters that are in and out of After the End who I found to be interesting and I hope that they make more appearances in the upcoming novels.
Audio Book Performance: One of my favorite aspects of audio books is that they usually have two narrators which makes the experience more enjoyable. Both narrators did a really nice job, Emily Rankin conveyed all of the stress and emotions that Juneau well, and Graham Hamilton was very pleasant to listen to.
Short N Sweet: After the End was an exciting adventure that would have made me a more invested reader if the characters were developed just as much as the mystery was.

It’s Okay
Full disclosure: I prefer non-fiction.
I think this story would earn a high school senior an A for creative writing. However, it’s not something you should pay for.
