Great strategies & techniques told in story format

I was really able to wrap my head around the ADD challenges and solutions because most of the book is told in story examples. You're able to follow mini vignettes of imagined characters who have certain ADD challenges. I could relate to aspects of almost all of them. Some of the things that were said about my biggest challenges were so like what I struggle with it was eerie. I'm already applying some of the concepts and ideas to my life. I was not a fan of the narrator, though. The way she over-annunciated the words kind of drove me batty. After a while, I got used to it, though.

Wish I had this reference 35 years ago for college

I guess the first step is understanding that you do have ADD. this is the first book I've listened to that has concrete steps to adapt the way you think to getting things done. I've already recommended it to several of my friends.

Useful for more then just ADD folks, my personal manual

I lovingly refer to this book as my manual. People I care about or might live with are required to read it. It explains the anomalies people enjoy and dislike at the same time. It can be helpful for those with and without ADD as it could help anyone organized. First the organization in this book it great. Short, tight focused chapters with 3 solution options (1 self, 2 friends and family, or 3 professional). This is really helpful for folks with ADD because we don’t always know where to start or how. This book will give concrete recommendations that we can test and comeback to. Also this type of organization allows the book to double as a reference book too. Don’t have to read the whole thing to get what you need. The narrator does a great job reading and moving the book along. The voice is enjoyable to hear and clear. She does a good job pausing in places the written word looks different and emphasizing. It helps someone who might have issues focusing stay engaged. I also recommend getting the written version to read/use in conjunction with the audiobook. I can’t recommend this book enough for what it has done for me as an adult but also how it has helped others I have shared it with.

Pedantic and self-contradictory

I could not get beyond the 2nd chapter. Directly after noting how difficult it is for adults with ADD to make decisions given infinite choices, these folks proceed to offer the description of an overall strategy followed by 2 or 3 options for implementing the strategy. Also, in the introduction, they repeat no fewer than 3 times, how other books fail to address ADD characteristics, and how this book is designed specifically to do that. I'm not interested in a dissertation on ADD and why other organizing strategies, methods and tools are inferior. In fact, I have found many other tools which are much more ADD friendly and helpful to me. I do not like this book, Sam I am.

Great content, cringey narration

I bought this book to try to help my son with executive function issues. He won't read or listen to books like this, so I read them and introduce the concepts to him when applicable situations arise. I like the memorable phrases like "EAST is LEAST" and other clever ideas the author has to help those with ADD remember the concepts. Having ADD myself, I really appreciate this. As other reviewers mentioned, the narration leaves a lot to be desired. The entire book is read in the tone of an automated phone attendant recording. Think of a female voice saying "All agents are currently busy. Press 1 to leave a message, or stay on the line". It's incredibly close to sounding computer generated. I recommend checking out a sample to see if you think you can handle listening to the whole book in that voice. The content is great though, and I found a lot of information I can put to use.

Good but I have a thing

The review is in the stars. Performance got three because the voice is a little bit like a kindergarten teacher talking to adults like she does kids. Just wanted to say though: In Chapter 9: Getting Over Clutter Overwhelm (Ch. 10 according to the app) The "I'm Late!" quote from Alice in Wonderland is brought up... and it's attributed to the Mad Hatter. I'm sorry, this is so irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, but I'm a lit nerd and I feel obligated to say somewhere that this quote was from the White Rabbit, long before the Mad Hatter is even introduced. Don't know if it's in the text, or if it was misread by the narrator, but, just a little anal-retentive fact check for ya.

This is why we hide our ADD.

I bought this book with high hopes. Today I returned it. It served up a double whammy of condensation — a story that treated readers like idiots and a narrator who talked to readers like infants. THIS is why I, and maybe others, hesitant to share my struggles with others.

Thorough and highly usable.

As a professional organizer and a family member of people with ADHD I really appreciated how much this book had to offer. It gives multiple approaches to each challenge and most of them seem realistic to try. One of the most practical self-help books I have seen.
