Description
K. J. Charles turns up the heat in her new Society of Gentlemen novel as two lovers face off in a sensual duel that challenges their deepest beliefs.
Silas Mason has no illusions about himself. He's not lovable or even likable. He's an overbearing idealist, a radical bookseller and pamphleteer who lives for revolution...and for Wednesday nights. Every week he meets anonymously with the same man, in whom Silas has discovered the ideal meld of intellectual companionship and absolute obedience to his sexual commands. But, unbeknownst to Silas, his closest friend is also his greatest enemy, with the power to see him hanged - or spare his life.
A loyal, well-born gentleman official, Dominic Frey is torn apart by his affair with Silas. By the light of day, he cannot fathom the intoxicating lust that drives him to meet with the radical week after week. In the bedroom everything else falls away. Their needs match, and they are united by sympathy for each other's deepest vulnerabilities. But when Silas' politics earn him a death sentence, desire clashes with duty, and Dominic finds himself doing everything he can to save the man who stole his heart.

Adults falling in love!
Any additional comments?
I find myself tired of May/December romances and teenage puppy love. This book's protagonists offer a welcome change. It is so nice to see two middle aged men fall in love over books, philosophy, wine, with not so much attention to physical beauty until well after attachment is established.
I am not the biggest fan of dominance and submission, but I was not put off at all because, I don't know, the care is there. The awareness at all times of each other and of limits and care to observe that. I loved that there was discussion of why the protagonists felt the way they did and that, while the romance was at the forefront, it did not swallow their world and we got to see them moving in it, addressing their pasts and presents.
Their struggles are genuine for me; grown men who are allowed to still grow, to learn, to find love and comfort outside of the usual trappings of puppy love, insta-love and physical fascinations leading to love. The characters feel like people and I find that I cannot say that about many romances I've read.
Are there contrivances? Certainly. I do not think any romance is about the "real world;" but when the characters are texturized, 3D-entities, the contrivances melt away for me and I only want to see what happens at the end; and that definitely happened with this story.

Dominic & Silus, Matthew Lloyd Davies is Marvelous
I know I'm in the minority here, but there's something about the books in this series that haven't really worked for me. A Seditious Affair focuses so much on the politics of the era, and while I get that's the whole point of Silas' character, as well as the point of the conflict between him and Dominic, I still could have done with a tad more lovin' and a bit less talk. Matthew Lloyd Davies is fantastic here with the range of voices and accents he's able to conjure for this series. Very fine work.

Erotica at its finest
Wow does this 2nd book in the series really turn up the dial with its Erotic moments. Its graphic, sexual and amazing. It feels incredibly naughty too, i absolutely loved the dynamic of these 2 main characters, they are far more appealing then the characters in the first book. I also found myself way more interested in the plot too. I guess i just have a weakness for forbidden lovers story lines. At times it's thrilling even, definitely the kind of book to captivate you enough to finish in a weekend.

Enjoyable period romance
I really enjoy all of KJ Charles's books, and this was no exception. The writing is excellent, and the sense of time and place are incredibly rich. However, I liked this story less than some others. While we learn a great deal about Regency-era politics--sometimes to the point of repetition--we're given virtually no background information on either protagonist. We know almost nothing about their families and only a few scraps about their past. That makes it very difficult to understand what drives their characters. Why is Silas such a firebrand and so loyal and generous? What drives Dom's desires and his inner conflict? Both men experience character development, but it's hard to understand where they began. I think even a few paragraphs about their past would have helped. The performance was excellent. I was relieved Dom didn't have the annoying voice he was given as a minor character in the first book.

A wonderful m/m historical romance.
Not only a great m/m romance, one of the best historical romances I've read so far.
Wonderful narration, I fully appreciate this narrator's skill with varried accents, from a Tori Dandy, to a rough bulldog from the poorest London, to whiney cockney'd nefarious characters.
Ensure you start from the beginning of the series.

Outstanding
One of the many things I appreciate about KJ Charles writing is how well researched are all her books. A Seditious Affair is a wonderfully written and entertaining story that mixes politics and sex perfectly. Mathew Lloyd Davis performance was top notch.

Brilliant!!
Politics and sex, my two favorite things. The history was accurately portrayed. The love story was magnificent. One of the main reasons I liked it so much it was a true look at love, friendship, duty, and honor. Soul searching on how far we will bend for love, and how much we will risk for friends. KJ Charles just continues to amaze and enthrall.

Who knew sedition could be so, well, hot?
From the first page this is not a slow burn. Thrust into the action (double entendre intended) from the start You can't help but love these two principled men. Again KJ Charles fills a world with grit and gilt, and this time a fair bit of kink. The balance of modern sensibilities (the emphases placed on enthusiastic consent and the power of a D/S relationship being with the submissive) and achingly well researched historical political intrigue makes my heart flutter. The world and characters feel real and I adore them all.
