Armando Tellez

Armando Tellez arrived in the United States from Bolivia at thirteen with limited English, a borrowed psychology book he could not yet understand, and the quiet determination of a boy who had already entered a classroom uninvited.
He failed English composition three times, studied French on the Riviera at twenty-four, and worked three jobs—not out of ambition, but because his family needed the support. He earned each degree in turn—from NOVA Community College, George Mason University, Georgetown, and Virginia Tech—paying for every credit himself. Between espresso orders at a bookstore, he read neuroscience and medieval poetry. Over twenty-five years, he built an enterprise career across federal and financial institutions, pursued his passion for cars, and traveled alone to cities where he did not speak the language—not to escape, but to reflect on where he came from.
Through it all, home remained sacred: a kitchen that never stopped cooking; a lemon tree planted by a father who never said, “I love you,” but arrived with tools whenever needed; and a house that held thirty years of birthdays, grief, conflict, and love. Everything he built—the career, companies, and investments—served that one word.
He writes to educate and inspire children of all ages because every child standing outside a window deserves to know the door can open. His stories transcend countries and borders. They explore the universal experience of arriving somewhere new and choosing to stay, to build, to fail, and to try again.
The Weight of Dust is his first novel. He wrote it alone at a bar on the other side of the world, because solitude is how he has always found himself.
Life is simple. Enjoy it and never forget where you came from.
