The revelatory words of prophets and apostles have continued to magnify the cherished role of Eve, not only as the mother of all living and companion to our first patriarch, Adam, but to all who follow in their guided footsteps toward eternal life. Through Eve’s faith and courage, we can readily see that we too have an intricate role to play in the gathering of the saints in these last days. The women of today are connected with Eve through an eternal bond. As her daughters, we are called to finish Mother Eve’s divine purpose in bringing her children to the knowledge of Christ.

"What could I have done more for my vineyard?" In one of the Book of Mormon’s most magisterial passages, the lord of a vineyard looks over his beloved olive trees with great sorrow and strives to redeem them. This allegory represents Jesus Christ’s labor to save not only individual souls, but an entire world. Perhaps, more than any other Book of Mormon prophet, Jacob manifests the same divine anxiety, having been born in a “wild wilderness” and inheriting the task of uniting a divided people.

Joseph Smith's observation that "by proving contraries, truth is made manifest" has become a beloved aphorism of Latter-day Saint thought. Both Things Are True is an experiment upon these words. Most aspects of a covenant life are lived in the tense space between contrary ideas that are equally valid but individually incomplete. When we learn to hold true things together in their natural tension, we find our hearts and souls stretched wide. The process can be challenging, even painful, but the spiritual rewards are great.

Throughout history, God’s covenant people have always participated in ritual worship to remind themselves of God’s love and to enable them to walk a pure, holy, and godly path. One of the ancient practices that the Lord restored through Joseph Smith is the building of temples and administering the accompanying ordinances and covenants. But even though Latter-day Saints understand that ordinances and covenants are necessary for salvation, many―including those who attend the temple regularly―struggle to understand the practice of temple worship.
