When Pierre, a troubled veteran, discovers that his girlfriend Ellen is an expensive call girl, it’s easy to understand the need to protect what belongs to him. Pierre’s been to war and back and lost brothers fighting wars against an unknown enemy. To discover that the very people Ellen services are profiting off the backs of other soldiers and students like him for their own gain while threatening Ellen’s life was all it took to throw Pierre over the edge.

Fugitive Francis Hammerton walks away from the courthouse where he's been convicted of a petty crime - after all, no one's paying much attention - and then suddenly finds himself drawn into a horrible dilemma. He accidentally discovers the body of William Rabone, an attic tenant in the house where Hammerton has taken refuge. He reports the crime to the police, and then is himself unjustly accused of murdering the bank official. What can he do? If he admits his identity to Inspector Combridge, he'll be sent to jail for the original charge.

Princess Yu-Malu (The Dragon Princess), ancient in age (although seemingly young), most beautiful, and vastly wealthy, hates Western civilization and vows its downfall. She is assisted by a Corps of Dragonflies, members of the Hung, a powerful Secret Society. Yu-Malu wants China restored to its rightful place in the world. As part of her campaign, the Princess desires to obtain the formula of a revolutionary new rocket fuel invented by the West. Unless her demands are met, she will destroy the entire gold stocks of the West with her secret weapon. Already, planes carrying gold have been disappearing, but Yu-Malu's patience has been exhausted.

With the economy in free fall, the government crippled by indecision, the streets taken over by new political parties, and the fragile institutions of civilization crumbling, a young man finds himself homeless and alone on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., facing certain death unless he can master survival skills he never imagined needing. Fending off violent citizens in an urban landscape that is gradually sliding into looting and mayhem, the protagonist emerges as an ultimate force of justice in a lawless land.

Starvation, violence, and death run rampant in the remains of our once-proud country. Federal troops, commissioned to protect the homeland, have turned their guns on the lawless population. Citizens find shelter in government safe zones while ruthless gangs enforce their will outside the camps. When the military transforms Washington's life-saving food bank into a gun collection center in order to disarm all but the soldiers themselves, riots ensue.

The protection of cyberspace has become a vital national interest because of its importance both to the economy and to military power. An attacker may tamper with networks to steal information for money or to disrupt operations. Future wars are likely to be carried out, in part or perhaps entirely, in cyberspace. It might therefore seem obvious that maneuvering in cyberspace is like maneuvering in other media, but nothing would be more misleading. Cyberspace has its own laws.
