Dr. William Stonehurst has found not just a treatment, but an actual cure for severe PTSD by developing a way to remove the memory of the trauma that caused the PTSD. He then discovers that it is possible to place these removed memories in another person, and it becomes an option for sentencing for repeat violent offenders. Implanting memories of people who suffered the type of violence that the convict perpetrated is thought to reduce recidivism, make them feel real empathy for their victims, and increase the chances of rehabilitation.
