This is a journey through the turbulent history of Uganda - a walk through military coups, rebel insurgency, and social violence. In the first instance, it is the story of Robert, who struggles to come to terms with bereavement and poverty. Yet the road of pain leads him to a life of fulfillment as a minister in the church. It is also the story of John Ogwang, a school dropout who joins the army. After the government is overthrown, he flees to serve in the brutal rebel army. Later, he takes advantage of an amnesty offered and surrenders to the government.
