As I share this new collection of hymns, I feel compelled to offer a few thoughts on its purpose. This volume is not intended to be a comprehensive anthology of the finest English hymns. Instead, my primary focus has been on providing comfort for the ailing and spiritual nourishment for Christians in their private moments. I firmly believe that profound thoughts often linger in our memories as poetry, while prose may fade away. The hymns included in this collection cover a wide array of themes, specifically chosen to resonate with the hearts of all true Christians, regardless of their ...

Reflecting on the fourteen years since I embarked on the journey of exploring the Gospels, I sincerely hope these years have not been in vain. They have been filled with trials, extensive work, countless readings, deep reflections, and fervent prayers. With this volume, I am more convinced than ever that the so-called Evangelical views of Christian truth are profoundly rooted in Scripture and can withstand any fair examination. The longer I study, the more I believe that no theological system aligns so perfectly with the Bible as the one often referred to as Evangelical. I release this work ...

In this final volume, I reflect on a journey that began sixteen years ago with the series Expository Thoughts on the Gospels. By the grace of God, this work is now complete, and for this, I am profoundly grateful. As Ecclesiastes reminds us, Better the end of a thing than the beginning of it (Eccles. vii. 8). With humble thankfulness, I present this effort to elucidate a remarkable portion of Gods revealed Scripture. I acknowledge my weaknesses in fully grasping even the simplest truths found within His word. I pray that God will bless this endeavor, forgive any shortcomings, and use it for ...

With a deep sense of responsibility, I present this volume of commentary on the Gospel of St. John. This undertaking is not merely a supplement to the Expository Thoughts series; it is a comprehensive exploration that offers a thorough analysis of the text. In a time when doctrinal clarity is often overshadowed by vagueness, it is imperative for those who advocate for distinct and well-defined theology to demonstrate that their beliefs are solidly rooted in Scripture. I believe the Gospel of St. John, when rightly interpreted, serves as the clearest response to those who embrace a vague ...

In Expository Thoughts, J. C. Ryle thoughtfully breaks down the Gospels into manageable sections of about twelve verses each, highlighting two or three key insights for reflection. At a time when detailed commentaries were abundant, Ryle sought to provide a practical resource for everyday believers. His work serves as a guide for family prayers, a comforting companion for those visiting the sick, and a valuable tool for private devotions for those whose busy lives prevent them from engaging with larger commentaries. Ryle presents this first volume on the Gospel of St. Matthew with a heartfelt ...

In Expository Thoughts, J. C. Ryle meticulously divides the Gospels into manageable sections of about twelve verses, highlighting two or three key points for reflection. Recognizing the wealth of detailed commentaries available during his time, Ryle sought to create a resource that would serve the everyday believer—ideal for family prayers, comforting the sick with thoughtful readings, or enriching personal devotions for those with busy lives. This first volume on St. Luke continues the tradition established in his previous works on St. Matthew and St. Mark, with Ryle’s earnest hope that ...

J.C. Ryle was well known for his warm, plain-spoken candor, the kind which appeals to all souls regardless of rank or title, and this short book is no different. Bold, encouraging, and affectionate, "A Call to Prayer" is just as the title says—an earnest invitation for all children of God to come before Him in prayer. Read it, be edified, and have hope: you have access to the Maker of heaven and earth who can do all things.

"Thoughts for Young Men," by J. C. Ryle, is a short yet passionate appeal that, a hundred years after it was written, remains relevant for today. Replete with warnings, exhortations, and instruction about this life's many trials, temptations, and common pitfalls, Ryle's classic is biblical, practical, timeless, and wise.

He that wishes to attain right views about Christian holiness must begin by examining the vast and solemn subject of sin. The plain truth is that a right knowledge of sin lies at the root of all saving Christianity.
