Othello is a tragedy by William Shakespeare based on the short story Moor of Venice by Cinthio, believed to have been written in approximately 1603. The work revolves around four central characters: Othello, his wife Desdemona, his lieutenant Cassio, and his trusted advisor Iago. Attesting to its enduring popularity, the play appeared in 7 editions between 1622 and 1705. Because of its varied themes — racism, love, jealousy and betrayal — it remains relevant to the present day and is often performed in professional and community theatres alike.

Titus Andronicus is the main character and tragic hero in William Shakespeare's play of the same name, Titus Andronicus, a Senecan tragedy. Titus is a Roman nobleman and a general in the war who distinguished himself in ten years of service against the Goths. Despite his exemplary service the war's toll on him is sufficient that he declined the emperorship. Nonetheless, he begins the play as an exemplary citizen. However faith in the traditions of the Roman system of government eventually leads to his death as others seek revenge.

Faust is a tragic play in two parts by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, usually known in English as Faust, Part One and Faust, Part Two. Although rarely staged in its entirety, it is the play with the largest audience numbers on German-language stages. Faust is considered by many to be Goethe's magnum opus and the greatest work of German literature. The earliest forms of the work, known as the Urfaust, were developed between 1772 and 1775; however, the details of that development are not entirely clear.

This collection presents the works of the three fathers of ancient Greek tragedies: Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. The principle theme of Aeschylus' tragedies is the idea of fate being omnipotent and the futility in struggling against it. Cymbeline, also known as The Tragedie of Cymbeline or Cymbeline, King of Britain, is a play by William Shakespeare set in Ancient Britain (c. 10–14)[a] and based on legends that formed part of the Matter of Britain concerning the early Celtic British King Cunobeline. Although listed as a tragedy in the First Folio, modern critics often classify Cymbeline as a romance or even a comedy. Like Othello and The Winter's Tale, it deals with the themes of innocence and jealousy. While the precise date of composition remains unknown, the play was certainly produced as early as 1611.

The final play of the Oresteia, called The Eumenides (Εὐμενίδες, Eumenídes), illustrates how the sequence of events in the trilogy ends up in the development of social order or a proper judicial system in Athenian society. In this play, Orestes is hunted down and tormented by the Furies, a trio of goddesses known to be the instruments of justice, who are also referred to as the "Gracious Ones" (Eumenides). They relentlessly pursue Orestes for the killing of his mother.

White Fang is a novel by American author Jack London  — and the name of the book's eponymous character, a wild wolfdog. First serialized in Outing magazine, it was published in 1906. The story details White Fang's journey to domestication in Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush. It is a companion novel (and a thematic mirror) to London's best-known work, The Call of the Wild, which is about a kidnapped, domesticated dog embracing his wild ancestry to survive and thrive in the wild. Much of White Fang is written from the viewpoint of the titular canine character, enabling London to explore how animals view their world and how they view humans

Porcelain and Pink - one of the stories, which entered in a collection of eleven short stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald Tales of the Jazz Age (1922). Originally appearing in the January 1920 issue of The Smart Set, Porcelain and Pink was the earliest of the stories Fitzgerald would later reprint in a book-length collection. Porcelain and Pink is a comic one-act play. The plot involves a young woman in a bathtub and a case of mistaken identity.  The story is a bit of a lark, a one-act burlesque that opens with a splendidly droll parody of stage directions, featuring a blue porcelain bathtub.

Uncle Vanya is a play by the Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. It was first published in 1897. The play portrays the visit of an elderly professor and his glamorous, much younger second wife, Yelena, to the rural estate that supports their urban lifestyle. Two friends—Vanya, brother of the professor's late first wife, who has long managed the estate, and Astrov, the local doctor—both fall under Yelena's spell while bemoaning the ennui of their provincial existence. Sonya, the professor's daughter by his first wife, who has worked with Vanya to keep the estate going, suffers from her unrequited feelings for Astrov.

Пьеса Булгакова Багровый остров была написана по мотивам одноименного сатирического фельетона. Этот блестящий политический памфлет отражал все события, происходящие в России, начиная с февральской революции. Используя имена героев сочинений Жюля Верна и Киплинга, автор мастерски выписал самые яркие политические фигуры того времени с присущим ему неподражаемым сарказмом. Неудивительно, что при жизни Булгакова пьеса не была опубликована.

Зойкина квартира — трагический фарс в трех актах знаменитого русского писателя, драматурга и театрального деятеля Михаила Афанасьевича Булгакова (1891–1940). Действие происходит в Москве, незадолго после большевистской революции. В квартиру Зои Михайловны вламывается председатель домкома товарищ Портупея и сообщает, что ее шестикомнатную квартиру положено "уплотнить". Дескать, по-буржуйски это, одной такую жилплощадь занимать, и свободные комнаты требуется подселить новых жильцов.

Пьеса Михаила Булгакова, в которой описан техногенный конец света в результате газовой войны. Во время химической войны из-под контроля выходит т. н. Солнечный Газ и человечество гибнет, в живых остаются лишь несколько человек, живущих отныне в коммуне. Пьесу не смогли опубликовать или поставить при жизни Булгакова. Приговор цензуры был суров: "ставить эту пьесу нельзя, так как там погибает Ленинград". Впервые она вышла в 1971 году, в Париже. В СССР её выпустили в октябре 1987 года.
