Gilda, Fallon, Noshi: Three children, the sole survivors of the Roanoke massacre. Fallon, the oldest, made a solemn pledge to protect his younger charges at all costs. But before long, they are torn apart; Fallon is sentenced to death, saved at the last moment and sent to England; Noshi is sold as a slave; and Gilda is claimed by her cousin Pocahontas. But Fallon has not forgotten Noshi or Gilda. And so he overcomes all odds to return to America and fulfill his pledge to his murdered parents.

Jamestown is fondly remembered today for being the first permanent English settlement in the colonies, but it was not fondly remembered by those who lived and died there. The English quickly learned it would be difficult to establish a permanent settlement because of the poor weather, the swampy terrain, the hostile natives living nearby, and the general inexperience and ineptitude of the English settlers.

In 1607, a year after the Virginia Company was granted a charter to establish a settlement in North America, 104 men set sail on a voyage to a new land. Among the brave adventurers who make the journey is a young boy named Samuel Collier, the page of famed Captain John Smith. Disease, famine, and continuing attacks by neighboring Algonquin Native Americans take a tremendous toll on the settlers. Samuel is one of the few to survive the harsh realities of the New World during the first few years of Jamestown.

In 1621, 57 women undertook a three-month journey to Jamestown after responding to an advert placed by the Virginia Company, looking for wives for its tobacco planters in the New Colony.
