  • The Mystery and the Rhythm of Christian Life
    Sep 1 2026

We truncate the gospel when we reduce it to Jesus' final moments — died, buried, rose, sins paid. Colossians presents something fuller: Jesus is alive, preeminent over all creation (Col 1:15-20), and believers are united with him now. The two organizing ideas:

The mystery — "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Col 1:27). The gospel isn't remembering what Jesus did 2,000 years ago; it's the risen Christ dwelling in believers by his Spirit, with all the treasures of wisdom hidden in him (Col 2:2-3). Knowing him directly — not just topics about him — is where transformation comes from.

The rhythm — the Christian life is like breathing: put off / put on, repent / turn to Jesus in faith (Col 3). Repentance alone ("sorry, I keep messing up") never changes anyone; it must pair with faith — a "divine exchange" where you bring Jesus your specific sin (impatience, harshness, anger) and ask for his opposite character in its place.

Warnings along the way (Col 2): don't be taken captive by plausible arguments, human tradition (age hierarchy), legalism, or dream-based additions to Scripture — the substance is always Christ; test everything against the Bible.

Practical application (Col 3:18-4:1): wives/husbands, children/fathers, employees/bosses — are where hidden heart-sins surface: harshness, defiance, cutting people off, "nobody can tell me what to do."

Relationships are how God sanctifies. The message closes with guided prayer: breathing out repentance over those relationships, then asking Jesus for the exchange — his patience, humility, and love for our fallen nature.

  • Priesthood of All Believers

Purpose as a Christ follower, work, finances - how does it all fit together?

The Lord is our inheritance. In the OT, this phrase applied to the tribe of Levi, the priests who, unlike the other 11 tribes, did not get an allotment of land.

In the NT, all believers are priests. Practically, this means we are all bi-vocational ministers.

    1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

  • Born from Above
    Jun 10 2026

Core Text: John 3 (Nicodemus and Jesus), with reference to 2 Timothy 1:6-7

Main Thesis: Intellectual or religious knowledge of Christianity is not the same as being spiritually born again. True salvation requires a work of the Holy Spirit — being "born from above."

    Key Points:

    • Nicodemus, a master Bible scholar, still lacked genuine spiritual life — representing anyone who knows about Jesus but doesn't truly know him.
    • Ray shares his own testimony: raised in church, spiritually empty until a sovereign encounter with God at age 19 in college.
    • The bronze serpent in Numbers 21 foreshadows Christ on the cross — we must "look to" Jesus in our sin, not our own religious performance.
    • Sin is not just actions but thoughts, pride, and motive.
    • The only people beyond reach of salvation are those who love darkness and refuse to come to the light.

Call to Action: Humble yourself before God — not as a guarantee, but as the first step toward an encounter with the Holy Spirit.
