Eastbourne’s Regeneration Plan takes centre stage in Episode 2 of We Are Eastbourne, as Dan and Kathryn head to Meads and Hillbrow Health and Wellbeing to capture a live event unveiling how this once‑in‑a‑generation investment is now being turned into real action. Across the town, early projects are already underway, and this episode explores what that looks like in practice and why it’s such an exciting time for Eastbourne.

At the heart of the episode is a major announcement: Eastbourne will be home to a brand new “mini public” – a group of local people chosen to help set the town’s priorities and advise on where funding should go. It is a new idea within the Pride in Place programme and already on the radar of central government, putting Eastbourne at the forefront of community‑led decision making.

You’ll hear from Richard Garland, Chair of the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Board, as he explains what today’s launch means on the ground, the five key themes guiding the work, and early changes such as the town‑wide spring clean, ward workshops and plans for a central support hub.

You’ll also meet Emily May, who introduces the ambitious Beach School concept designed to connect young people with Eastbourne’s coastline, learning and future career routes; Jess Holliday from Eastbourne Foodbank, who talks powerfully about dignity, belonging and building a more joined‑up response to food poverty; and Eastbourne MP Josh Babarinde, who shares why this moment feels different and what early wins residents can expect to see in their neighbourhoods over the coming months.

Whether you’re a lifelong resident or just curious about what this regeneration plan will really mean in everyday life, this episode offers a clear, hopeful look at changes already starting to happen – and how local voices will help shape what comes next.

  • The First Steps: Welcome to We Are Eastbourne
    Sep 12 2025

In this very first episode, you'll meet your hosts, Dan & Kathryn, as they introduce you to the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Board, an independent body of local people set up to oversee the spending of £20 million of Government funding to improve your quality of life in the town we love.

The Neighbourhood Board was created after Eastbourne was awarded a major investment of government funding. Its job? To make sure that money is used in the best way possible to fund projects that matter to local people, improving neighbourhoods, and unlocking opportunities across the town. This podcast is part of that mission: opening up the conversation, celebrating what’s already great about Eastbourne and exploring each ward.

You’ll hear why the Board exists, the kind of projects it supports, and how it’s working with residents to shape a brighter future. Think of it as your front-row seat to Eastbourne’s most exciting stories — from neighbourhood initiatives and creative businesses to the big events that put our seaside town on the map.

Across the series, expect conversations with community leaders, local entrepreneurs, inspiring volunteers, and cultural voices who are all helping Eastbourne thrive. Each guest will bring their own take on what makes this place special, and where we’re heading next.

To kick things off, our pilot episode features a very special guest: Eastbourne’s MP Josh Babarinde, who joins us for the very first “MP's Minute” — a regular feature where he’ll share updates on what he’s doing for the town and how national decisions connect to local life.

Alongside that, we'll join the Chair of the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Board, Richard Garland, to find out all about the project over coffee and a cake, hear from residents about how they would like the money to be spent, and visit an exciting new business to the area to find out why they chose Eastbourne.

Whether you’re a lifelong resident, a newcomer, or simply curious about the buzz around Eastbourne, this podcast is for you. Expect positivity, energy, and stories that reflect the very best of our town.

Welcome to Episode One — the beginning of something special.
