    Isaiah 26:3

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Reflection: Peace grows when your focus shifts to God.

For the past few days, I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather. If you know me, you know that in early 2022, I was diagnosed with Sjogren’s Disease, which is a chronic, systemic autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks moisture-producing glands, primarily causing severe dry mouth and dry eyes. It also causes profound fatigue, joint pain, and potential complications in organs like the lungs, kidneys, and nervous system. Before I got diagnosed, I was suffering from severe migraines and constant body aches, to the point where my middle fingers were bent and straightening them created a click noise. They call this “trigger finger.” I also had excruciating pain in my left elbow, where I could not lift my arms higher than chest level. The doctor prescribed a TENS device that distributed low-voltage electric pulses to treat this “tennis elbow.” Additionally, I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.

Needless to say, my health was becoming an issue, and my doctor and all the specialists I was seeing had to devise a plan to keep my levels below critical so that I could adequately manage with the help of some meds and lifestyle changes. At one point, the doctors feared I may have had LUPUS, but test after test ruled that out.

All this to say that with Sjogren’s Disease when I do get under the weather or when I’m hit hard with a cold or flu, it takes me up to 3x as long to recover, where it would normally take just days or a week. Despite all this, I cannot help but find peace – as long as my eyes are focused on God. I know God sees me. So on days when I’m not feeling well, where my body is screaming for me to take a break – I give all of this to God; and I take it slow, lie low, and meditate on God’s goodness, mercy, and grace because I trust Him – and I know He sustains me.

    Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

A couple of things come to mind when I read this verse:

First, when driving, regardless of the destination, I adjust my GPS navigation system to display a route from point A to point B. I mostly use it because the information it provides is real-time. It factors in traffic, alerts, and traffic accidents. If there are delays, it will notify me of a different route to take. I put a lot of trust in my GPS because it has "knowledge" of what's ahead, i.e., potential road blocks, construction, or closures.

Sometimes GPS is wrong, I admit. It gives me a route that, perhaps, was open minutes ago, but is slowed down now or closed, so the real-time navigation may not have up-to -the minute correct information. For the most part, it does.

The other thing is, whenever an appliance fails, an application fails, or a device stops working properly, or I get an error code on the display from trying to do something, one of the first things I do is Google the issue. Often, it points me to a forum like Reddit or a similar FAQs page. Sometimes, I'll Google the manual and look for solutions there. What I'm doing is going to the manufacturer's website or a reliable third-party source for answers. We tend to look for answers from outlets with knowledge of our issue. I look for hacks that could give me faster solutions. When we navigate life, we often look to our inner circles, or to other people who have gone through similar situations, like support groups, licensed therapists, and some people even turn to horoscopes or tarot cards, or other "spiritual" people who could give insight into the type of "energy" taking place. But the one person we selcome turn to is GOD. Wouldn't it make sense to turn to the creator Himself about issues we're facing? The God who made me and knows everything about me has all the answers to my problems. Sometimes I go a long way to get to God, when I know I have a direct, deep, and close connection to Him already. He's the ultimate power source.

This morning, the energy was attacking me almost immediately when I woke up, and I made the stupid mistake of opening up social media first - and just as easily as something interesting pops up on my feed, just like *that* it went away. Disappeared. God knew! He made it go away so that I could turn to Him -- something I should already know to do.

I'm grateful for these small daily reminders to TRUST IN GOD WITH ALL MY HEART AND NOT LEAN ON MY OWN UNDERSTANDING FOR HE WILL MAKE MY PATHS STRAIGHT.
