Can you love something and still need to leave it?
For Episode #6 of Unfiltered Conversations Between Friends, we’re joined by our longtime friend and former Between Friends team member, Jennifer Duffey, for a conversation that starts with the coffee shop but goes much deeper.
We talk about what happens when something you genuinely love becomes heavy. Burnout. Emotional exhaustion. The pressure of being the dependable one. Saying “I’m fine” when you absolutely are not. Showing up for work, family, friends, and everyone else while quietly struggling yourself. We also talk about the strange kind of grief that comes with choosing to leave something behind.
Can you miss something without wanting it back? Can leaving be the right decision and still break your heart? Can you be grateful for a chapter of your life and also be relieved that it’s over? And how much of who we are becomes wrapped up in what we do, where we work, and how much other people need us?
Jennifer spent ten years with us at Between Friends, so this one gets personal. We look back at what those years gave us, what they took from us, what we miss, what we definitely do not miss, and what we understand now that we couldn’t see while we were living it.
Sometimes two things can be true at once: You can be grateful for something and exhausted by it. You can miss something and not want it back. You can know leaving was the right decision and still grieve it. You can love something and still leave it.
