      🍿 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱

      Toy Story (1995)

Roger and Pascal have fun looking back at the impact and legacy of the first fully computer-animated feature film released 30 years ago!

Produced by Pixar, when it was still a small and relatively unknown company, the film explores universal themes, such as the tension between old and new (Woody vs. Buzz Lightyear), which metaphorically reflects broader societal and technological changes.

The film’s marketing and merchandise rollout was not aggressively planned from the start. Pixar was primarily focused on creating the film rather than merchandising or theme park tie-ins.

They worked on the Toy Story experience: the storyline, the music, the voices, and the animation of course which was so unique at the time

This led to the ‘perfect’ trailer with all the key elements and the right structure across 90 seconds.

LESSON: marketers and content creators MUST prioritise storytelling and product quality rather than becoming overly focused on marketing tactics or merchandising from the outset.

      00:47:05 Film Marketing

      FRIGHT NIGHT (1985)

Directed by: Tom Holland (Class of 1984, Psycho II, Child’s Play 1988, Thinner 1996)

      Written by: Tom Holland

Cast: Roddy McDowall, Amanda Bearse, Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Stephen Geoffreys as Edward "Evil Ed" Thompson

We look at the marketing of Fright Night, particularly the debate about the Trailer that the Director felt didn’t represent the film properly. The trailer presented it is a a gory horror movie, when in fact it was also a comedy, drama and teen romance feature. Did they originally miss out on a wider audience because of this mistake?
