One tried to modernise Jason by mashing together multiple sequels into a slick survival slasher. The other attempted to reboot Freddy and somehow drained all the fun out of the dream.

We break down what works, what absolutely doesn’t, and whether either remake understood the assignment. Is the Friday reboot secretly better than it gets credit for? And did Nightmare fail because it misunderstood Freddy, or because some things just shouldn’t be rebooted?
