एउटा मात्र स्रोत, अर्थात् डा. एनडी लामा द्वारा लिखित "एकाधिकारबाट आधुनिकतातर्फ: नेपालमा डिग्री मान्यताको पुनरावलोकन" शीर्षकको लेखले नेपालमा विदेशी शैक्षिक उपाधिहरूलाई मान्यता दिने प्रणालीको आलोचना गरेको छ। लेखकले त्रिभुवन विश्वविद्यालय (त्रिवि) र राष्ट्रिय परीक्षा बोर्ड (एनईबी) द्वारा सञ्चालित वर्तमान समता प्रणालीलाई पुरानो, नियन्त्रणमुखी र अनावश्यक रूपमा कागजी प्रक्रियामा आधारित भन्दै आलोचना गरेका छन्। यस लेखले लेखकको आफ्नै र उनकी छोरीको शिक्षा मान्यता प्राप्तिको व्यक्तिगत संघर्षलाई उदाहरणको रूपमा प्रयोग गर्दै, जीईडी (GED) जस्ता अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय रूपमा स्वीकृत विकल्पहरूलाई पनि कसरी अस्वीकार गरिन्छ भन्ने स्पष्ट पारेको छ। समाधानका लागि, लेखकले स्वतन्त्र मूल्याङ्कन एजेन्सीहरू र राष्ट्रिय योग्यता संरचना (NQF) मा आधारित आधुनिक अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय मापदण्डहरू अपनाउन सुझाव दिँदै, शिक्षा मन्त्रालय अन्तर्गत राष्ट्रिय योग्यता मान्यता परिषद् (NQRC) स्थापना गर्ने प्रस्ताव गरेका छन्।
