I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high A1c and diabetes, I had acid reflux so bad I couldn't lay down to sleep. How fasting can help prevent diseases Fasting—when done strategically and safely—can help prevent several chronic diseases by triggering powerful biological processes. Here’s a clear breakdown of how it works: ⸻ 1. Improves Insulin Sensitivity Fasting helps reduce insulin resistance, a major driver of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. When you fast: • Blood sugar levels drop • The body uses stored glucose (glycogen) • Cells become more responsive to insulin Why it matters: Better insulin sensitivity means less risk of diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. ⸻ 2. Reduces Inflammation Chronic low-grade inflammation fuels many diseases—cancer, Alzheimer’s, arthritis, you name it. Fasting has been shown to: • Lower inflammatory markers like CRP and IL-6 • Activate anti-inflammatory pathways Why it matters: Less inflammation = stronger defense against most degenerative conditions. ⸻ 3. Triggers Autophagy (Cellular Cleanup) When you’re in a fasted state, your body enters “repair mode”: • Old or damaged cells are broken down and recycled • Toxins and dysfunctional proteins get cleared out Why it matters: This may help prevent cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and aging-related decline. ⸻ 4. Supports Heart Health Fasting can improve risk factors like: • Blood pressure • Cholesterol (lower LDL, higher HDL) • Triglycerides Why it matters: All of these reduce the chances of heart attack and stroke. ⸻ 5.
