À propos de ce contenu audio

Everyone "knows" the people of Pompeii were frozen mid-bite. That Vikings wore horned helmets. That Napoleon was tiny. Hang on a minute. None of that is true.

The Truth Is Weirder is the history show that checks the story, made for curious kids aged 9 to 13 (and the adults stuck happily in the front seat). Every episode, a famous history "fact" goes on trial. Cass tells the story the way everyone knows it, full of confidence, films and half-remembered rumour. Pip wants the evidence: a letter, a dig, a tapestry, an actual report card. The myth gets busted, the real story turns out stranger than the fake one, and nobody gets made to feel silly for believing it, because we all believed it.

For parents: every episode is fact-checked against primary sources before it is recorded, and when historians genuinely are not sure, we say so, because "we don't actually know" is a real answer and kids deserve to hear it. There is no scary content played for horror, no ads aimed at children, and nothing loud, dumb or factually loose. Under the laughs, the show teaches one durable skill: asking "how do we actually know that?" It is the same method every episode: find the claim, find the earliest evidence, check who was actually there, and see what survives. Great for the car, the dinner table and the classroom, and built to be argued about afterwards.

  • Wrong Fire: The Salem Witches Weren't Burned
    Aug 31 2026

The torch, the stake, the pile of wood, and a crowd watching a "witch" burn. It's the picture everyone has of Salem.

It's also in completely the wrong place. Cass is sure about the fire. Pip has the 1692 court records, a quiet hill just outside town, and the reason the most famous witch trial in history gets blamed for something that actually happened an ocean away. A careful, kind look at what really happened in Salem, and why getting it right matters more than the fire ever did.

That's the season! Cass and Pip will be back, and they've already spotted something very suspicious about spiders.

  • The Pharaoh's Curse: Who Actually Died?
    Aug 23 2026

A sealed tomb. A boy king. A candle flickering in the dark, and a curse that promised death to anyone who dared step inside. When the men who opened it started dying, the newspapers had their story: the pharaoh's revenge.

Cass has the spooky version ready to go. Pip has a simpler question: the man who actually opened the tomb and touched everything in it, when did the curse get him? Follow a mosquito bite and a pile of headlines to the trick for busting any curse: count the people it didn't happen to.

  • Even Einstein Flunked: The Nicest Lie in School
    Aug 23 2026

A whole thousand years of history, and supposedly not a single proper bath. That's the Middle Ages everyone pictures: filthy, smelly, people so scared of water they thought a wash might kill them.

Cass is certain. Then Pip starts counting, the public bathhouses, the soap-makers' guilds, the medieval writers nagging people to stay clean, and asks one awkward question: which century is that scary "nobody washed" quote actually from? A romp through cherry-picking, and why "a long time ago" is exactly where bad facts love to hide.
