    The Second Shift Project Podcast

    (formerly The Success Sensei)

What happens after you've already spent years building, achieving, failing, learning and figuring things out?

The Second Shift Project is about what comes next — the decisions, challenges and opportunities that emerge when experience changes the way you think about success, ambition, work, money, family, health and life.

No formulas. No pretending to have everything figured out. Just honest observations, lessons learned and ideas explored in real time.

Hosted by Robert Devane — martial artist, coach, entrepreneur, investor and lifelong student of what makes people succeed.

  • Ep.393- Why a lot of people never become good at anything
    Sep 9 2026

This episode explains why many people never become excellent at anything: they give up too early, get distracted by trends, or lack a strong enough reason to continue when progress stalls.

It emphasizes choosing a clear "why," resisting the urge to jump ship, and consistently showing up—small, steady effort over time leads to mastery and makes future pursuits easier.

  • Episode 392: Future-Proof Your Resilience
    Aug 19 2026

There are great days ahead. But there are tough times ahead too.

We naturally seek comfort, convenience and an easier life — and technology and AI are increasingly giving us exactly that. But could removing so much friction from our lives also be eroding something we desperately need: resilience?

In Episode 392 of The Second Shift Project, I look at the difference between appearing tough when everything is going your way and being genuinely resilient when circumstances turn against you.

We can't predict every setback, injury, loss or difficult period ahead. But we can prepare ourselves for them. Through physical training, sport, competition, mental preparation, sleep, nutrition and deliberately continuing to challenge ourselves, we can build resilience long before we're forced to rely on it.

Don't wait for something bad to happen and wish you'd prepared. Future-proof your body, your mind and yourself for both the highs and the lows ahead.
