  • The Evolving Modern Quilt Guild - with Karen Cooper
    Oct 7 2026

    086

In this episode, Karen Cooper of the MQG joins us. We talk about the evolution of the MQG, and how technology and social media have affected change.

We discussed how the MQG handles activist quilts, and the mail that comes with showing them. Pssst… you’re allowed to walk on by things you don’t care for!

We also dug into some ideas for changing process around better protecting the quilts while in transit, in the form of creating courier hubs, and getting better appraisals for insurance purposes should things go wrong. I hope you give it a listen, and pitch in with ideas on this if you have them!

  • Making, Curating, Exhibiting, and Experiencing Activist Art - with Mel Beach
    Sep 9 2026

    084

In this episode, Mel Beach is back with us! Mel and I took on a convo about activism quilts, and how they appear out in the world – both throughout history, and in the current landscape of both artistic activism and politics. We talk all the facets of making this work, curating it, displaying it, and experiencing it as a viewer. And what to do when you come across work that isn’t your cup of tea.

Mel has also been making up a storm of fun stuff on her IG feed, using watercolor instead of fabric for the moment. We talk about how making the ugly stuff helps you make the good stuff!

  • Taking the Temperature of What You Do - with Jo Avery
    Aug 12 2026
Episode 082In this episode I’m chatting with Jo Avery. We talk about her entrepreneurial journey from her early twenties, and how she has refined her businesses along the way to suit the stages of her life, including moving from in person teaching to online, and partnering with people who have other skill sets and compliment hers.Jo is also a maker of temperature quilts - a style of quilting that has fascinated me. She talks about developing them using improv techniques (her favorite way to work) and using these, and 100 Days projects, as playgrounds for her next big idea.Show NotesWebsite - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/joaverystitch/Bayeux Tapestry - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayeux_TapestryBritish Museum/Bayeux Tapestry - https://www.britishmuseum.org/exhibitions/bayeux-tapestryLady and the Unicorn Tapestry - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lady_and_the_UnicornFestival of Quilts - https://www.thefestivalofquilts.co.uk/Daisy Aschehoug - https://warmfolk.com/Svalbard Retreat - https://warmfolk.com/products/svalbard-retreat-2026-depositThread House Academy - https://academy.thethreadhouse.co.uk/Creative Spark - https://ctpub.com/Cleopatra’s Needle Needlepoint - https://www.cleopatrasneedle.co.uk/Jo’s Temperature quilt - https://joavery.co.uk/temperature-quilt-and-temperature-embroidery/Temperature quilt archive - https://joavery.co.uk/category/temperature-quilt/Karen Lewis - https://www.karenlewistextiles.com/Nick Ball - https://www.instagram.com/quiltsfromtheattic/?hl=enKelly Lautenbach - https://www.instagram.com/itsjustsew/Exhausted Octopus - https://exhaustedoctopus.com/*Dear Data: A Friendship in 52 Weeks of Postcards - https://amzn.to/4o7lpXUJo’s patterns - https://store.stitchgathering.co.uk/collections/pdf-patternsJourney to the Centre of a Quilter Book - https://store.stitchgathering.co.uk/products/journey-to-the-centre-of-a-quilter-bookHandiquilter Moxie - https://handiquilter.com/product/hq-moxie-15-quilt-machine/?srsltid=AfmBOop_zOlmMc1xxxky0-rIJoSdGN0hf3sWoyDbktMoBw3AsJKmMN3sAurifil - https://www.aurifil.com/Modern American Vintage - https://modernamericanvintage.com/Poking tool - https://modernamericanvintage.com/collections/quilting-tools/products/pointturnersScorer - https://modernamericanvintage.com/collections/quilting-tools/products/heramarkers*Affiliate link - I might make a commission but you don’t pay moreHow to Own a Revolutionary Craft Biz is a reader-supported publication. • Where the Inspiration Comes From - with e bond (Part 2)
    Jul 29 2026
Episode 081In Part 2 of my convo with book artist and fabric designer e bond, we delved into where you look for inspiration. e brought a lot of her book making and painting skills to her first fabric designs, and subsequent lines relate back to this in an on-going story. We also talk about what can be inspiration, and it’s not necessarily other art. e is a huge reader, and many of the books she reads turn into art ideas. I loved the great sense of art being threaded through all aspects of her life, and honestly, find myself needing to do a bit more of that in mine!Show NotesWebsite - https://ebondwork.com/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/eisroughdraft/Creativebug classes - https://www.creativebug.com/instructors/e-bondEnid Blyton - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enid_Blyton*The Notebook, The History of Thinking on Paper, by Roland Allen - https://amzn.to/4wZP09tAustin Kleon - https://austinkleon.com/*Mick Herron Slough House - https://amzn.to/4u01MCd*Twyla Tharp, The Creative Habit - https://amzn.to/4ecMOUL*The Art of Looking Sideways - Alan Fletcher - https://amzn.to/4vlRDB5*Picturing and Poeting - https://amzn.to/3PQFnJu*Robin Wall Kimmerer - https://www.amazon.com/stores/Robin-Wall-Kimmerer/author/B001KIHUZE?ref=ap_rdr&shoppingPortalEnabled=true&ccs_id=25143b97-e2d8-49ab-94ec-7cb6e815745f*Braiding Sweetgrass- https://amzn.to/4wZMU9y*Atomic Habits - https://amzn.to/4dF3jsH*The Year of Yes, Shonda Rhimes - https://amzn.to/4uFAXo714-Pattern Series - https://huntersdesignstudio.com/shop/?swoof=1&product_cat=quilt-patterns&product_tag=fourteen-fqsThe Slowdown Show - https://www.slowdownshow.org/Tracy K. • Allowing the Creative Process to Lead You - with e bond (Part 1)
    Jul 15 2026

    Episode 080

Book artist and fabric designer e bond joined the pod and we had a really vibrant conversation about how to discover and work in one’s own creative process. We also talk about how to capture ideas and where they live until they can be brought to life.

I find creative process conversations so thrilling. We all do it differently, and yet, we’re all essentially reaching for the same thing: the place where we get to manifest an idea into something of substance.

Our conversation went long, and it was so satisfying that we’re making it a two-parter.
