  • New York Weather March 5 Morning - 26° Above Normal
    Mar 5 2026
Good morning. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside and that thick, damp air at 43 degrees? That's your warning. Rain is coming for all of us today. And for some, it brings ice. In the next 24 hours. Down in New York City, rain starts this morning and doesn't let up. You'll hit 42 degrees, then slide into the upper 30s tonight as the rain really cranks up. We're talking up to an inch by Friday morning. Northeast winds at 14 miles an hour make it feel closer to 30 degrees by late tonight. Not the day to forget your umbrella. Now the Capital Region. This is where things get sketchy. You're waking up to 26 degrees. Rain moves in late morning, but here's the problem. Tonight, between 10 P.M. and 4 A.M., temperatures hover right at freezing as rain flips to sleet and freezing rain. A Winter Weather Advisory is up. Your Friday morning commute could be a skating rink if you're not careful. Western and Central New York, you're looking at rain showers by mid-morning. Highs reach the low 40s. Rain continues overnight with another half to three quarters of an inch piling up. Here's your five-day outlook. Friday brings a break with patchy fog. Then Saturday explodes into the 50s and low 60s statewide. 26 degrees to 26 degrees above normal for early March. Showers and thunderstorms roll through late. Sunday clears partly with highs near 60. Monday and Tuesday keep the warmth going, upper 50s to mid 60s. Tonight's full moon is playing hide and seek behind all those clouds. Spring equinox is two weeks out. And this weekend's warmth feels right on schedule. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.

Good evening. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly. That bit of rain overnight cleared out, leaving us with mainly clear skies and a pleasant 45 degrees. It feels nice. But don't get used to it. In the next 24 hours. Here's the situation right now. Down in the New York City metro, you're sitting at 46 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. Tonight, clouds thicken up fast. Rain arrives after 4 A.M., with lows dipping to 38 degrees. Head north and the story shifts. Western New York is sunny at 48 degrees. Central New York reaches 42. Both regions see rain by midday Thursday. But the Capital Region? that's where things get tricky. Tonight's low drops to 27 degrees with patchy fog developing after 11 P.M. Thursday brings rain. Then Thursday night, a wintry mix arrives. We're talking sleet and freezing rain overnight into Friday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Thursday evening through noon Friday. The Friday morning commute could be slippery. Thursday statewide is a wash. Rain spreads from west to east, with New York City seeing the steadiest precipitation through the day. • New York Weather March 4 Midday - Winter Weather Advisory
    Mar 4 2026
Good afternoon. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly. That steady rain you heard drumming on the roof overnight left behind nearly a third of an inch. Now we're sitting at 48 degrees under stubborn gray skies. But today is actually your dry window. You'll want to use it wisely. In the next 24 hours. Down in the city, you'll see partly sunny skies with a high near 46 degrees. Just a slight chance of a passing shower before 4 P.M. Head up to the Capital Region and it's a different look entirely — sunny skies, a high near 45 degrees. Western New York also grabs the sunshine with a high near 48 degrees. Central New York sits at 42 under mostly sunny skies. Tonight, temperatures drop fast. The Capital Region plunges to 27 degrees with patchy fog developing after 11 P.M. The city holds milder at 38. And here's a treat — step outside tonight and catch the full moon. But Thursday. Thursday is when things get messy. Rain spreads statewide. The city sees a soggy day with a high near 43. Upstate, it gets complicated. The Capital Region starts with rain, then transitions to a wintry mix Thursday night — sleet, freezing rain, even some snow. A Winter Weather Advisory kicks in Thursday evening through Friday noon for areas north and east of Albany. Western and Central New York see steady rain Thursday into Thursday night. The five-day outlook? Quite a turnaround. We stay cool and wet through Friday. Then a dramatic warm-up arrives. By Saturday, western New York could hit 64 degrees. By Tuesday, temperatures climb into the mid-60s across much of the state. Some spots may even touch 70 degrees. Spring is knocking. About two weeks until the equinox. Charge your phone before Thursday night. You'll want the updates if you're north of Albany. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
