  • Ep 046: What Advice Would You Give to Your Younger Self?
    Dec 20 2022
Welcome to the final episode of the Midlife Business Show for 2022. I launched the podcast back in February and over the year I've had the pleasure of chatting with 10 wonderful women, all of whom are running incredible businesses, ranging from cookery schools to authors, graphic design, decluttering, weight loss coaching and using numerology to grow your business. They are all incredible.  These women have so many talents, but they're also such beautiful souls that it's been my pleasure to work with them during 2022, and also to interview them and share their wisdom with you, and it's this wisdom that I want you to hear today.  One of the questions that I ask each of my guests is, What advice would you give to your younger self? Now, this is a powerful question, and of course, by the time we're in midlife, we have so many opportunities to reflect on how we were when we were younger, and how the benefit of hindsight would help us if we could have that. So my guests have answered these questions authentically and from their hearts. This episode is a compilation of their answers, and it's creating an episode that is just jam-packed with wisdom and humour and all the beauty of midlife. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together, Episode Highlights: (00:43) Introduction(02:36) Sonia Grimes(03:30) Yve Audaer(03:56) Joanne Burke(05:14) Shelley Mason(06:57) Jane Webber(08:30) Vicki Nicolson(10:31) Jo Hall(11:35) Sharon Sargeant (12:28) Jo Soley(12:56) Jen Roach    About Suzanne: Suzanne Mountain is an Online Business Coach and Course Creation Expert for business owners 45+ who want to monetise their online presence without spending all day scrolling on social media. • Ep 43: Fighting Ageism with Entrepreneurism
    Nov 22 2022

This week, I will be sharing the shocking results of a survey published by 55 Work Redefined. The report set out to look at the impact of ageism on individuals in the workforce and showed that the relationship between the over-fifties and work is broken.

Now, it will come as no surprise to most of you here, that ageism in the workplace and in any environment really winds me up. I'm a believer in positive ageing, in living our best lives whatever age we are. So, as an ex-HR Leadership Development person and having spent 30-plus years in large Fortune 500 companies, one of my key values is around equality. And of course, as I've got older, the value around ageism has become even more important because now that I'm in my early sixties, it is really, really key to me that I demonstrate and role model how wonderful it is to be at this age and to be able to do all the things that I can do.

    Episode Highlights:

    • (02:25) Large corporate organisations tend to celebrate and promote youth culture
    • (03:38) The 55 Work Redefined Report
    • (05:03) These are shocking statistics especially when companies talk about talent shortages
    • (05:59) THe over-fifties make up the bulk of the global freelance workforce
    • (07:47) Gow a business on your terms
    • (08:41) Running your business allows you to call the shots
    • (09:27) Book a free call with me to discuss your business ideas

  • Ep 42: 3 Reasons Why You Don’t Need a Website & 3 Good Reasons to Have one
    Nov 8 2022

In this week’s episode, I want to talk to you about websites. Now, when people book a call with me for the first time, one of the questions I ask them is, do you have a website? And I then go and have a look at their website to understand what their business is and how it's working for them. Many times when we actually get on the call, I find out that the individual I'm talking to has a website but isn't clear who their ideal client is. Often, they're not making regular sales and yet they're investing money in a website. And quite often I see a discrepancy between the images I see on social media and the ones that I see on the website.

So, I thought it would be worth me talking to you today about three reasons why you don't need a website, and then to show that I'm not anti-website, three good reasons to have one.

    Episode Highlights:

    • (02:03) Start with what services your ideal client wants to buy?
    • (03:01) The first reason why you don’t need a website is cost
    • (04:04) The second reason is around appearance
    • (04:43) The third reason is time
    • (05:53) The first reason to have a website is that you don’t own your Facebook page or Instagram profile
    • (07:20) The second reason is search engine optimisation, SEO
    • (08:31) The third reason is if you have  a good-looking website it looks more permanent and credible

  • Ep 41: How to Identify Your Ideal Client
    Nov 1 2022

Today, I’m going to talk to you about why it is really important for you to understand your ideal client. Now, there's a lot of talk in the online business world about ideal clients, and some of it can appear very restrictive. And if you are like me, you may have resisted honing in on your ideal client.

When I set up my coaching business seven years ago, I had a long history of coaching board members, senior management, and rising talent within the corporate setting. I'd also spent many years honing my coaching skills, including undertaking coaching qualifications at one of the world's leading business schools and delving deeper into several other areas of coaching and coaching modalities. So I considered myself to have some deep experience that could help so many different people. So when I heard the concept of ideal clients and understanding who your ideal client was, I was quite resistant.

I felt like as a new business owner, actually honing in and saying, this is my niche and this is who I work with, would lead me to have fewer clients. In reality, every time I niche a bit deeper or a bit smaller, I gain more clients. And whilst this feels counterintuitive, the reason for this is that people want to buy from an expert.

    Episode Highlights:

    • ((04:08) By choosing an ideal client, you get to create marketing that attracts that person
    • (06:25) Who is your ideal client?
    • (09:18) How does this person think about and speak about their problem?
    • (11:36) Once we fully understand who our ideal client is, we then need to think about how we help them
    • (13:02) What does their version of their best life look like?
