  • Armidale, Airshows, and the Extraordinary Chaos of Chasing Mist
    Oct 10 2026

We're back for another episode of The Hyperfocused Podcast, where we occasionally talk about photography, usually get distracted, and somehow always find our way back.

Anthony's been busy photographing kangaroos, sunrises, misty mountain landscapes and fast-moving aircraft at the Gold Coast Pacific Airshow. Meanwhile, Mark and Darren embarked on a spontaneous trip to Armidale and Walcha in search of picturesque fog, only to discover that the best conditions were probably somewhere they'd already been. Mark also squeezed in a half marathon and returned with some strong opinions about questionable flash photography.

Somewhere amongst the usual chaos, we discuss the challenges of sports photography, spectacular eclipse images and whether we can believe what we see anymore, astrophotography and star trackers, the incredible portraiture of Annie Leibovitz, our dream camera setups, outrageously expensive Leica and cinema gear, shutter counts, and whether automated camera traps take the satisfaction out of wildlife photography.

Expect plenty of photographic enthusiasm, expensive gear fantasies, terrible jokes and completely unnecessary tangents.

Contains strong language, adult humour and occasional useful photography advice.

  • Episode 1 - Well behaved kangaroos, badly behaved photographers
    Aug 2 2025

In this, the first episode of The Hyper-Focused Podcast, hosts Anthony, Darren, Benny, and Mark discuss some of the most dangerous situations they've been in over the course of their time in photography.

Darren explains what it's like shooting virtually in the dark when using an Olympus body and 100-400mm setup, while Mark complains about his inability to shoot in anything but good light, and Benny goes on a philosophical journey about street photography.

You'll also hear details about Anthony's approach to automotive photography, panning shots, and his reluctance to shoot street for any other reason than to hang out with the other three idiots on the podcast.

  • Welcome to The Hyper-Focused Podcast
    Jun 28 2025

The hosts of The Hyper-Focused Podcast introduce the theme and focus of this new podcast about photography.

The Hyper-Focused Podcast – Zooming in on what really matters in photography.

Four photographers. Four wildly different perspectives. One shared obsession: capturing the world in all its messy, beautiful, and complicated glory.

The Hyper-Focused Podcast is where deep photographic insight meets raw, unfiltered conversation. Hosted by four creatives from different corners of the industry — from gritty street shooters to polished portrait pros — this isn’t just a podcast about gear and techniques (though you’ll get plenty of that too). It’s about the why behind the image.

Each episode dives into an element of photography — light, subject, composition, ethics — and blows it wide open. You’ll hear determined debates, unexpected laughs, and honest stories from behind the lens. But the conversations don’t stop with aesthetics. The hosts boldly explore the political power of images, the cultural narratives shaped by photography, and the accelerating role of technology in how we see, edit, and share.

In a world flooded with visuals, The Hyper-Focused Podcast slows things down to look deeply — not just at photos, but at the people, passion, and purpose behind them.

Funny, heartfelt, and deeply human, this is a podcast for anyone who believes photography isn’t just about pictures — it’s about perspective.
