The History Syndicate Podcast is to bring together those with a common interest in history. It is to build a community for anyone to discuss everything and anything history.


Whether your research is part of an academic scholarly debate, a museum exhibition, an historical project or personal family history, the syndicate wants to hear and share it with the world.


So much work, time and effort placed into discovering, re-evaluating or add to historical knowledge often goes unsaid, unpublished and unheard. It is the syndicate’s desire to provide a relaxed conversational forum where all have equal opportunity to present their knowledge and hard work.


Join the syndicate host Mark Martin on The History Syndicate Podcast. Mark is a graduate of history and has enthusiasm for any historical subject. This is his hobby podcast simply because he loves talking history with anyone.

    On this episode, Mark welcomes Dr Elisabeth Norton to the pod to discuss her latest book, 'Women Who Ruled The World: 5000 Years of Female Monarchy'. Mark and Beth discuss what is considered as monarchy, what it means to be a ruler and some of the more unknown female monarchs from history. Discussions range from ancient rulers throughout pre-modern, early modern and modern monarchs, including Maria Thersea, Isabella I of Castile, Mary I of England and more.

  • 59. Visiting the Battlefield of Bosworth (1485) with Ben Mayne

    On this episode, Mark revisits the Wars of the Roses with Ben Mayne to discuss teh Battle of Bosworth. The difference this time is that they visit the battlefield on the ground and record their conversation as they walk the terrain of the landmark battle that saw the beginning of the Tudor dynasty in England and the end of Richard III. They visit new monuments, describe the various battlefield events and the terrain as a supplement to episode 29 where they both discussed the intricacies of the Battle.

  • 58. Discussing the Coventry Blitz with Ben Mayne
    Apr 7 2026

    On this episode, Mark records his first podcast live on location in Coventry to discuss the blitz during the Second World War with the excellent Ben Mayne. Ben works with various guided tours but also the Liberation Route Europe to ensure that individuals are educated and made aware of the not only the battles, but the civilian costs to the wars. Ben created a tour of Coventry for the 85th Anniversary of the November 1940 Blitz when the Luftwaffe destroyed large parts of Coventry, trying to subvert its industrial manufacture. Ben kindly took Mark to some of the locations and discussed some of the stories with him from this and other World War Two raids on the city. This episode is released on the 85th anniversary of the April 1941 raid.
