  • Georgia Weather 3/9 Midday - 42° Above Normal
    Mar 9 2026
Good afternoon. Georgia. I'm Aaron Jolly. That thick blanket of fog you drove through this morning? We picked up a tenth of an inch of rain overnight. And now it's hanging around like a houseguest who won't leave. Visibility's down to a quarter mile in spots, especially around Atlanta and the northern counties. Good news — a light westerly breeze should sweep it out by late morning. Once that fog lifts, you're in for a treat. We're running 42 degrees above normal today. Metro Atlanta hits 79 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. Down near Savannah, mostly sunny with a high near 82. Eastern Georgia takes the crown — 84 degrees once that patchy fog clears by mid-morning. Tonight stays mild. Lows drop to the low 60s statewide. But here's where things get interesting. After 6 P.M., showers and thunderstorms develop around Atlanta. By overnight. Here comes a 50 percent chance. Western Georgia between I-75 and I-20? Watch for strong storms between 6 P.M. and 1 A.M. — damaging winds and small hail are possible. The coast stays mostly dry until a slight rain chance after 5 A.M. Tuesday brings scattered showers and storms, mainly up north. Highs hold in the upper 70s to low 80s. Wednesday? We could challenge record highs — mid to upper 80s statewide, with some interior spots flirting with 90 degrees. Thursday's the game-changer. A cold front sweeps through with widespread storms, then temperatures crash 42 degrees. Friday turns cooler and dry — upper 60s with lows in the low 40s. The weekend rebounds nicely with sunny skies and highs climbing back to the mid to upper 70s. If you're enjoying these forecasts, a quick rating helps more folks find us. See you this evening.

We bottomed out at a balmy 62 degrees overnight—that's **43 degrees above normal** for early March. Summer is getting a head start, folks. But watch your commute if you're near the coast. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until **9 A.M.** Visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less. If you're driving early, slow down and use those low beams. Once that fog lifts. Metro Atlanta heats up fast. Here comes a high of **81 degrees** under mostly sunny skies. Just keep an eye on the sky after **1 P.M.**—a slight chance of thunderstorms rolls in. The real action happens tonight though. Storm coverage jumps to likely between **8 P.M.** and midnight. Some could pack heavy rain and gusty winds. Tonight's low only drops to 63 degrees, but expect another half-inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain by morning. Down along the coast, the mist burns off to reveal **83 degrees** and sunshine. The south breeze stays light, making it perfect for a walk near the water—just watch that humidity. Tonight, you dip to 63 degrees with partly cloudy skies. You might see a stray shower, but you stay mostly dry compared to Atlanta. Over in eastern Georgia, you're splitting the difference. You hit **84 degrees** today after the morning fog clears. A brief shower passes around midnight, but Sunday turns wetter with scattered showers likely and highs near 82. Daily rounds of storms are likely, especially Monday and Tuesday. Then everything changes Thursday. A cold front drops us back to the mid-60s, finally giving us a taste of actual March. By Friday, we see sunshine and 65 degrees—right where we should be. Pollen is climbing today, so you might want to grab the allergy meds before you head out. See you tomorrow. See you this afternoon.
