    When switchboard operator roles become obsolete, Lorena asked to be move to a switchman position -- a role deemed a man's role. She was denied and took the case to court and won. Her voice saved the livelihood of thousands of woman during that period and gave women today the fortitude to stand up for their rights.

    Kansas City-based history and culture writer Kim Kankiewicz shares the details in her upcoming book Bellewether; A Switchboard Operator, A Landmark Case, and the Women Whose Voices Connected a Nation.

    The book comes out during Women's History Month in March 2027.
