Episode Notes: God Has a Message for You. (2 Kings 8: 1-15)

If you’re a follower of Jesus, here’s something you need to know right at the start of this episode:

God has a message for you. Not just one, but many, and He delivers them in all kinds of ways. The primary ways, of course, are through the texts of the bible. God wrote a book, and He filled that book with stories, stories about real people, in real places, facing real situations. And although those stories were written to them, they were written for us. Paul says exactly that in Romans 15:4:

“Whatever things were written before were written for our learning…”

In other words, when you read the Old Testament, you’re looking at someone else’s story — but it’s meant to slow you down and prompt you to take note. Pay attention to both the narrative and the prophetic and consider how it fits with the world you see around you today.

And today, in 2 Kings 8, we’re going to look at three short stories, three moments where God had a message for three different people. But I strongly believe that the message He gave them is a message He wants to give you…

So, let's see what God wants us to take on board today….

  • The Sin of Remaining Silent. (2 Kings 6:23-7:19)

Episode Notes: The Sin of Remaining Silent. (2 Kings 6:23-7:19)

As believers, we are usually very aware of the sins we commit when we do something wrong. We know when we’ve spoken harshly, acted selfishly, crossed a line, or broken a command. Those are what some theologians call sins of commission.

But we are often far less aware of the sins we commit by not doing something, the things we leave undone, the good we withhold, the truth we never speak, the help we never offer. Those are sometimes called sins of omission, and believe me, Scripture has a great deal to say about them.

As we continue our journey through 2 Kings, we come to a passage where both kinds of sin appear side by side. Some people in this story commit sins by what they do, and they do some terrible things. But tucked right in the middle is a group of people who sin by what they fail to do.

So, let’s walk through this passage together and see what it teaches us, not only about what we shouldn’t do, but about what we must do….

  • What About Angels and What About Guardian Angels? (2 Kings 6: 1-23)

Episode Notes: "What About Angels and What About Guardian Angels?" (2 Kings 6: 1-23)

As I’ve studied the Scriptures over the years, one truth has impressed itself on me again and again: God wants to be your God, and He wants us to be His people.

    Well, I think it means

    · He wants to provide for us.

    · He wants to protect us.

    · And He wants to bless us, abundantly.

But how does He do that?

There are all kinds of answers you could give.

Sometimes, He uses our own effort.

    Sometimes He uses other people.

    Sometimes He works through circumstances.

But what about angels? Does God ever use angels to meet our needs?

Do you have a guardian angel? Is there one angel assigned to you?

Is that even , and if it is, how should you think about that?

Well, there’s a passage in 2 Kings that sheds some light on these questions. And what happens in this passage, though dramatic, actually mirrors the way God works in our lives today….

The Bible Project Daily Podcast is an in-depth, daily study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

Episode Notes: How to Be a Servant of the Lord. (2 Kings 5 1-27)

If you’re a believer in Jesus Christ, you are automatically a servant of the Lord, and you are also called to serve, to minister to other people. So, the question is not whether you’re a servant. The question is: What makes someone a good servant of the Lord?

There’s a passage in the Old Testament that gives us a vivid illustration of what true servanthood looks like. And what makes this passage especially interesting is that it contains several servants, each contributing something different to the picture it paints.

So, join me in 2 Kings chapter 5, one of the most familiar stories in the Old Testament — the healing of Naaman.

    Episode Notes: Examples of God's Provision. (2 Kind 4: 1-44) Part 1.

One of the great themes of Scripture is that God provides for His children. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible tells us that God sees, God knows, and God supplies. But what does that actually look like? What kinds of needs does He meet? And how does He meet them? The Old Testament is full of examples, and the New Testament builds on those promises. But in 2 Kings 4, we’re given three very specific, very practical stories of God stepping into real human need. And each one shows us something about how God provides for us today…

Episode Notes: Are others Blessed Because of You? (2 Kings 3: 1-27)

Welcome back, friends. Today, we’re stepping into one of the most surprising stories in the life of Elisha, a moment when God pours out blessings on people who didn’t deserve it, simply because one man humbled himself before the Lord.

It’s a story that asks a searching question of every believer: Is it possible that God sometimes blesses people because of us?

The bible gives us some examples of exactly that, and one of the clearest is found right here today in 2 Kings 3.

This is a fascinating story because of that exact twist, because here we see God blessing people who don’t deserve it, simply because of someone who does deserve that blessing.

So, join me in 2 Kings chapter 3….

Straight fact: God wants to use you to bless other people.

Now, I can imagine someone hearing that and thinking, Yes, but I don’t know how, I’m not trained. Well, that’s exactly what I want us to talk about today.

There’s a fascinating story in 2 Kings 2 about a man who knew how to bless others—how to minister to people—and from that story, we can glean some very practical insights as to how to do that in our own lives....
