Why do we stay consistent for a few days...only to fall back into old habits?

Most people think they need more motivation. Others believe they simply need more discipline.

But what if the real problem isn't either one?

In this episode of Tailgate Chat, Cliff shares one of the biggest mindset shifts he's experienced over the past year: consistency isn't the goal—it's the result.

Instead of relying on motivation or waiting for the perfect time, you'll learn why building simple, repeatable systems creates the momentum that keeps you moving forward.

Whether you're pursuing a personal goal, growing a business, navigating a transition, or trying to become the person you know you're capable of becoming, this conversation will challenge the way you think about consistency.

Because lasting change isn't built through motivation.

It's built through the systems you commit to every day.

  • When Your Identity No Longer Fits
    Jun 15 2026

Transition isn't about changing jobs. It's what happens when the identity you've built no longer matches the season of life you're in.

In this episode of Tailgate Chat, I share one of the biggest lessons I've learned through military service, nonprofit leadership, business, and personal setbacks: we often confuse what we do with who we are. When our identity becomes tied to a title, a career, or a role, losing that role can feel like losing ourselves.

I talk about the transitions I've experienced—from taking off the Marine Corps uniform to losing a mission that had become part of my identity—and why understanding your core values can help you navigate life's biggest changes. Because when your purpose is deeper than your job, your title, or the season you're in, the transition becomes much easier to navigate.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • Why transition is universal.
    • The difference between your role and your identity.
    • How losing a mission can create an emotional vacuum.
    • Why you don't have to reinvent yourself.
    • Why clarity comes after movement, not before.

If you're navigating a career change, military transition, retirement, becoming an empty nester, or simply trying to figure out what's next, this episode is for you.

In this episode of Tailgate Chat, Cliff Sosamon explores the role core values play in shaping our identity, decisions, leadership, and ultimately our purpose.

Many people spend years trying to figure out what they're supposed to do with their lives. But before we can understand our purpose, we first need to understand who we are.

Drawing from personal experiences, lessons learned in the Marine Corps, the values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, and the story behind the PRISMA values that helped shape his family's business, Cliff shares how core values are often formed long before we ever identify them. Through our parents, mentors, teachers, communities, and life experiences, we inherit a set of guiding principles that influence how we respond to challenges, opportunities, and everyday decisions.

Cliff also reflects on a recent visit to Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City and the connection between the Battle of Chapultepec and the Marine Corps' enduring values.

If you've ever felt uncertain about your direction, struggled to identify your purpose, or wondered why certain decisions weigh heavily on your conscience, this episode offers a practical and reflective look at the importance of understanding the values that already exist within you.

    Apr 15 2026

    https://youtu.be/PGSLSKL-Tzs

Six episodes in, it's time to pull over and look at the map.

This episode of Tailgate Chat is a reflection on the journey so far. Rather than introducing a new topic, Cliff Sosamon revisits the conversations that have shaped the first season thus far and explores the common thread connecting them all: learning to move forward despite fear, uncertainty, and the challenges that come with change.

Over the first five episodes, we've talked about purpose, identity, transition, motivation, and consistency. This episode steps back to connect those ideas and examine what they reveal about personal growth and the pursuit of a meaningful life.

    In this episode:

    • The three fears that stop people before they ever begin: rejection, failure, and success

    • Why purpose must be bigger than a job, title, role, or season of life

    • What military transition and major life changes can teach us about identity

    • The difference between motivation and consistency—and why one lasts longer than the other

    • How systems and small actions create momentum when motivation fades

    • Why personal growth is a journey, not a destination

Whether you're navigating a transition, rebuilding after a setback, searching for purpose, or simply trying to stay consistent when life gets difficult, this episode offers a chance to pause, reflect, and continue moving forward.

Tailgate Chat is hosted by Marine Corps veteran Cliff Sosamon and explores purpose, leadership, resilience, personal growth, and the lessons learned along the journey.

  • Why You Lose Motivation (And How to Stay Consistent Anyway)
    Mar 4 2026

Why do we lose motivation after starting strong?

In this episode of Tailgate Chat, we unpack a pattern many of us experience: the excitement of starting something new, followed by the slow drift when the daily grind sets in.

Motivation is powerful—but it’s temporary. Consistency is what sustains progress when fear begins to creep in.

    In this conversation, we explore:

    • Why motivation is the ignition, not the engine

    • How fear disguises itself as excuses, timing, or misalignment

    • The real battle between fear and purpose

    • Why consistency becomes the battlefield where that war is fought

    • Practical systems that help create accountability and momentum

I also share a personal commitment that is helping me stay aligned with my purpose: writing 500 words every morning before the day begins.

This isn’t a self-help lecture. It’s an honest reflection from someone still in the arena, figuring out how to stay when the excitement fades and the middle gets quiet.

If you’ve ever started strong and found yourself drifting later, you’re not alone.

    Let’s figure it out together.

    Jan 12 2026
