Transition isn't about changing jobs. It's what happens when the identity you've built no longer matches the season of life you're in.
In this episode of Tailgate Chat, I share one of the biggest lessons I've learned through military service, nonprofit leadership, business, and personal setbacks: we often confuse what we do with who we are. When our identity becomes tied to a title, a career, or a role, losing that role can feel like losing ourselves.
I talk about the transitions I've experienced—from taking off the Marine Corps uniform to losing a mission that had become part of my identity—and why understanding your core values can help you navigate life's biggest changes. Because when your purpose is deeper than your job, your title, or the season you're in, the transition becomes much easier to navigate.
In this episode, we discuss:
- Why transition is universal.
- The difference between your role and your identity.
- How losing a mission can create an emotional vacuum.
- Why you don't have to reinvent yourself.
- Why clarity comes after movement, not before.
If you're navigating a career change, military transition, retirement, becoming an empty nester, or simply trying to figure out what's next, this episode is for you.
