When did social media become our doctor?
In Part 2 of our Social Media series, we're exploring how Instagram and TikTok have transformed the way women think about health, wellness, hormones, and body image.
We discuss why relatable influencers often feel more trustworthy than experts, how algorithms amplify our insecurities, and why it can suddenly feel like every symptom needs a diagnosis after just a few minutes of scrolling.
At the same time, we recognize the positive side of social media. It's opened conversations about perimenopause, women's hormones, ADHD, mental health, and strength training that many of us weren't hearing anywhere else.
The challenge isn't avoiding social media altogether. It's learning to recognize when we're being educated... and when we're simply being influenced.
In this episode:
• The rise of health advice on social media
• Body image, wellness culture, and comparison
• The explosion of supplements and health trends
• Hormone awareness versus hormone anxiety
• How algorithms reinforce our fears
• Confirmation bias and wellness rabbit holes
• The benefits of online health communities
• Becoming a more intentional consumer of health content
Questions we explore:
• Have you ever bought a supplement because everyone online seemed to be taking it?
• Has social media ever made you worry about a symptom you hadn't thought twice about before?
• Which health creators leave you feeling empowered... and which leave you feeling like you're constantly falling short?
The more aware we become of what we're consuming, the more intentional we can be about what we believe and what we leave behind.
Remember: handling it perfectly isn't about being perfect.
