• I Was Tired of Settling: My Midlife Reinvention | Dear What’s Next
    Oct 24 2026

Have you ever felt tired of settling, even when your life looked good on the outside? In this personal Dear What’s Next letter, I’m sharing my own story of midlife reinvention—the quiet frustration, the fear of the unknown, and the shifts that started changing how I saw myself and what I wanted.

This letter comes from my table. From remembering the woman I used to be and realizing she might be you.

For years, I showed up for the job, the family, and everyone else while quietly wondering, “Is this it?” I stayed in what I call the settling lane because it was familiar. I knew the rules. I knew how much of myself I had to fold up to stay there.

What changed began with a shift in my mindset, my environment, and what I was willing to admit I wanted for my life.

    In this letter, I share:

    • What settling looked and felt like in my own life.
    • Why fear of the unknown kept me choosing the familiar.
    • How I began questioning thoughts like “It’s too late” and “Who do you think you are?”
    • Why I needed different conversations and influences around me.
    • What happened when I sat at my table and honestly wrote down what I wanted next.

If you’re feeling stuck in midlife, questioning your purpose, or ready to rediscover yourself, I hope you recognize a little of your own story in mine.

    Your reflection for this week

Sit at your own table. Take out a piece of paper and give yourself ten minutes to answer:

“What do I want for my life now?”

Write from the perspective of the woman you are today. Don’t polish it. Don’t justify it. Let yourself be honest.

Two questions to take with you:

    • Where am I settling because the familiar feels safer than the unknown?
    • What is one shift I’m ready to make in my mindset or environment?

  • The Blank Page/Dear What’s Next Letter
    Oct 9 2026

    Hi Midlife Friend,

You're sitting at the table. The house is quiet. And in front of you is a blank page, because you don't know your what's next yet.

In this week's Dear What's Next letter, I'm talking about the two feelings that showed up when I looked at my own blank page: scared and excited. Both at the same time. And why you don't have to pick one.

    In this letter:

    • Why the blank page isn't a failure. It's a starting line.
    • The two feelings that show up when you start over
    • A three-line exercise to find your thread
    • What to do when the words won't come (hint: pictures)

Your three lines (ten minutes, no editing):

    1. When did I last feel alive?
    2. What am I tired of tolerating?
    3. What would I try if nobody was watching?

This week's mantra: I am not waiting to be ready. I am rising as I go.

Not sure what your lines are pointing to? Take the Reinvention Quiz and find out which version of you is ready to be introduced: she-shifting.base44.app

Write back: What's on your page? Which line was easiest, and which one stopped you? Email sheshiftpodcast@gmail.com. I read every one.

  • How to Stop Negative Self-Talk in Midlife| Dear What’s Next Letter
    Sep 29 2026

Welcome to She Shift, where midlife women welcome to rediscover themselves, reignite their passions, and rise boldly into what’s next.

I’m your host, Pamela Stone, your midlife reinventor.

This week’s episode is for every woman who’s ever swallowed her pain, convinced herself she’s just being dramatic, and stayed silent because others “have it worse.” If you’ve ever tucked your struggles away and called it strength, it’s time to unlearn that habit.

Pamela Stone delivers a heartfelt letter to women who talk themselves out of the healing they truly deserve. She reminds us that pain is not a competition, urges us to stop minimizing what hurts, and calls out the myth that self-abandonment is strength. Healing starts with honesty—naming the hurt, even for just five minutes, and refusing to shrink from your own truth.

If you’re unsure about your next chapter or feel alone carrying invisible burdens, this episode is your invitation to honor your feelings and take the first step toward what’s truly next.

Write back: What's one hurt you've been minimizing? Name it. Then send it to us at sheshiftpodcast@gmail.com, or keep it for yourself. Either way, it counts.

You don't have to carry it silently anymore. Your truth is welcome here.

  • Dear What's Next Letter: Why Midlife Women Should Stop Playing Small
    Sep 19 2026

Welcome to She Shift, the podcast for midlife women who are ready to rediscover themselves, reignite their passions, and step boldly into their next chapter.

In today's episode, Pamela Stone speaks directly to the woman who has spent years making herself smaller for others' comfort. Starting from a candid moment in a fitting room and moving to the unspoken rules women over 45 are told to follow, Pamela explores how we've learned to disappear, not just in our wardrobes but in our ambitions, opinions, and laughter.

If you've felt that whisper of "there has to be more," this letter is your permission to stop shrinking and start taking up space, in your closet and in your life.

1.Identify where you shrink. Notice how you make yourself small at home, at work, or in your self-image. Awareness is the first step to change.

2.Try one bold move. Wear the bright color, speak up in the meeting, or reclaim a long-held dream. One act of courage spills over into every area of your life.

3.Redefine your worth. Wanting more isn't selfish. It's a sign of growth. You deserve to take up space.

You were never meant to fit. You were meant to rise.

  • Rediscover Yourself Through Crochet: Finding Calm and Mindfulness After 45
    Sep 16 2026

As we move through midlife, many of us find ourselves asking, “What’s next?” For Victoria of Gather & Hook, the answer came through an unexpected source: picking up the crochet hook she learned to use as a child, and creating a space for women to rediscover themselves through creativity and connection.

In the latest episode of the She Shift podcast, Victoria shared her journey of pivoting careers, her belief in the therapeutic power of repetitive motion, and why gathering with others—free from life’s distractions—can provide the calm and clarity so many women over 45 are searching for.

    3 Key Takeaways:

    • Purposeful Creativity: You can’t count stitches and life’s problems at the same time. Creative pursuits like crochet are a mindful way to give your brain a rest and become present in the moment 11:18.

    • The Power of Sisterhood: Building a diverse, supportive sister circle is essential. Different perspectives help you move forward with clarity and confidence 22:07.

    • It’s Never Too Late: The best age to start something new? “Today. Whatever age you are today,” says Victoria 27:59.

To all the women ready to reignite their passions and embrace their next chapter: take one small step. Whether you pick up a hook, a notebook, or a paintbrush, you are never too old to begin again.

  • Inside 'I Still Rise' — At the Table's Annual Survivor Fashion Show
    Sep 14 2026

Table Talk Tuesday is back. And it's back with a room full of women who decided cancer would not get the final word. In this episode, I sit down with the leadership and models of At The Table, a Columbus, Ohio nonprofit that supports, educates, and empowers women cancer survivors — with a specific focus on African American women. We talk about their annual signature benefit, the Still I Rise Survivor Fashion Show, celebrating its 9th year on September 27 at 3:00 PM at Columbus Academy. Why a fashion show? Because cancer takes more than your health. It takes your confidence. Treatment changes your body. Chemo changes your hair. You stop recognizing the woman in the mirror. The runway gives that back. One model walked into the casting call topless after losing both expanders — and found her community in that room. This one gets real. Survivors share their diagnoses, their first time claiming the word "survivor," and what it means to walk a runway and say I am still here, I am still beautiful, my story is still being written. What we cover • Why At The Table chose fashion as the platform for survivor advocacy • How confidence gets rebuilt after cancer treatment — and why that matters beyond one event • The sisterhood that forms at casting calls and rehearsals • Why men belong in this conversation too (men get breast cancer, and families carry the weight) • What happens after the runway: support groups, education, resources, scholarship • The Denise Pittman Scholarship and the 9th Community Service Excellence Award • Event details: lavender and gold, surprises at the door, why you should arrive on time If this episode moved you, do three things. Get your ticket at attrinc.org before Friday. Share this with a woman who needs to hear that her story is still being written. And subscribe to Table Talk Tuesday so you don't miss the next community leader at this table.

  • Dear What’s Next Letter: The House is Quiet: Now What
    Sep 13 2026

    Hi Midlife Friend,

    Dear What’s Next,

Nobody warned you about this silence.

Not the peaceful quiet you daydreamed about in the middle of the chaos. The quiet that comes after the last car pulls out of the driveway. After the last box is loaded. After the door closes and you’re standing in a house that is suddenly, impossibly still.

The house is quiet. And instead of peace, what you feel is somewhere between grief and panic.

In this week’s Dear What’s Next letter, Pamela Stone speaks directly to the woman in the empty room — the mom who spent two or three decades building an identity around noise, and now can’t stop asking now what?

    In this letter:

    • Why empty nest grief doesn’t make you ungrateful — and why “now what?” is the most honest question you’ve asked in twenty years • How your identity got built around the schedule, the carpools, the meals planned around other people’s hunger • The truth about guilt: loving them and mourning the role are not opposites • Why the empty room is an opening, not an ending • The interests you shelved — the business idea, the art, the travel, the unfinished degree — and why she never left • One small practice for this week: sit in the quiet without filling it • The question to carry into your weekend (don’t answer it too fast)

If you’re navigating empty nest syndrome, a midlife identity shift, or the strange grief of a chapter ending well — this letter is for you.

Dear What’s Next... the house is quiet, but I am not done. I am just beginning again.
