Episode 05 -- Narrative Control & The House Cup Season Begins

This episode marks the beginning of a new writing technique series: Narrative Control -- the art of choosing what your reader sees without dictating what they think.

After completing our "Show vs. Tell" series, we step into the next layer of craft: structure, exposure, attention, and intention. What does it actually mean to guide a story without manipulating meaning?

    In this episode:

    • Selected community poems exploring authenticity, confrontation, and recognition
    • Book Club discussion covering Bird by Bird Chapters 11-13
    • A sensory writing challenge featuring a retiring master art theif
    • And a full breakdown of Scribbler's Sanctuary House Cup (Feb 14 - Oct 10, 2026)

    Explained in the show:

    - What the House Cup is

    - How points work

    - Weekly Magical Relics(Awards)

    - The 50-Member Tournament

    - Signing Boons

    - Rank progression (Apprentice -> Arch Mage)

    - And why healthy competition sharpens craft instead of dividing community

If you've had questions about the House Cup, this episode hopefully answers them...

  • EP03 - Let the Reader Feel it: Sensory Language and Honest Emotion
    Jan 29 2026

In Episode 03 of the Scribbler's Sanctuary Podcast, we dive deeper into Show vs Tell -- this time through the lens of sensory language, emotional authenticity, and trusting the reader.

We explore how writers can create powerful emotional experiences without forcing sentiment, using sensory detail as an invitation rather than an instruction. This episode blends craft discussion, community voices and Book Club insights from Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott.

    Writing Technique Focus

We break down ideas inspired by two excellent craft articles:

    - What is Sensory Language? A Guide for Writers

    - Creating an Authentic Emotional Experience: Sentiment vs. Sentimentality

Together these ideas help us rethink how emotion actually lands on the page -- and why subtlety, specificity, and trust matter more than intensity.

    Appreciation

Huge thanks to this week's poets for sharing their work and vulnerability:

    • CrimsonHood
    • PemicuKericuhan
    • S.E. Pope

Your poems grounded this episode in lived emotion and showed exactly what sensory writing can do when it's allowed to breathe.

    Book Club

We continue our Bird by Bird Book Club discussion, focusing on:

    • Chapter 5: School Lunches
    • Chapter 6: Polaroids
    • Chapter 7: Character

    Special Guest

We're joined by @logosman21 of House Pegasus, a newer member of the Sanctuary who has already risen to the rank of Wizard through consistent engagement, poetry, and six-word stories.

He shares insights from his early writing journey and talks about his Inkitt based novel:

Galactic Eclipse: Children of the Light Dragon

    Community Voices

    • Hzaid553: The Child Of The Eclipse: Marven's Adventure
    • Rianna Reid: The Forest Children

    This Week's Challenge Prompt:

In the year 2134, humanity has colonized Mars and built thriving cities under protective domes. One day, a signal is received from the edge of the solar system. It’s a distress call from a ship that disappeared 50 years ago, before Mars was even colonized. The message is simple: “We found something. It’s coming.” As the signal repeats, a shadowy object is detected moving towards Mars, at a speed that defies current technology. You are part of a special team tasked with uncovering what happened to the ship and preparing for the unknown entity’s arrival.

  • EP01 - Writing Without the End Goal (feat. S.E. Pope)
    Jan 15 2026

In this episode of Scribbler's Sanctuary, we sit down with poet S.E. Pope, author of Infinite Nothing, for a conversation rooted in authenticity, vulnerability, and the quiet power of simply doing the thing.

    We talk about:

    • Writing without chasing an end goal
    • Discovering your voice through honesty
    • The moment creativity turns into identity
    • How Infinite Nothing came together naturally through love of the craft
    • Staying true to yourself in a world that pressures creators to "sell out"

S.E. Pope shares thoughtful insights on poetry, publishing, and community -- and reminds us that sometimes the most meaningful creative journeys are the ones we never planned.

    Question of the Day

One of the most tired inventions is the tire -- through sheer wheel power, it persists.

Who is the most resilient character you've ever written (or are currently developing)?

Tell us about them. How does their journey bend without breaking?

Drop your answer(s) in the comments or join the Scribbler's Sanctuary community to continue the conversation.
