  • It Came From The Thrift Store...The Baby-Sitters Club #9: The Ghost At Dawn's House
    Oct 24 2026

Do you remember landlines and syndicated TV, gentle souls? Do you remember VHS tapes? Well, reading this Baby-Sitters Club book sure brought back a lot of 90s childhood memories for us! We're talking about which member of the BSC we most wanted to be, which members we forgot existed (looking at you, alternate officers!), and how realistic the kids are written in Ann M. Martin's classic series. Spoilers, we still really like these books. They're easy reads, the pop culture references are sometimes inspired and sometimes baffling, and the girls are all aspirational. Plus, there's just a general sense of cozy adventure in these books.

  • Hassle In The Castle: Scooby Doo, Where Are You? (Season 1, Episode 3)
    Oct 2 2026

Season 2 is here, gentle souls! We're talking about a classic Scooby Doo episode set in a haunted castle, Hassle In The Castle. So many iconic images came from this episode, but does it hold up? Are any tropes introduced? Do we get any new Shaggy Lore? And does Daphne really deserve her reputation for being "danger-prone"?

If you want to follow along with our rewatches and track tropes yourself, you can find our Scooby Tracker here: https://tr.ee/AkrXRZ

  • MadLibs: The Craft (1996)
    Sep 5 2026

We've got a short and belated episode for you this week, gentle souls. We've had a crazy couple of weeks in our personal lives, but we still managed to sit down to play a game of MadLibs with the plot of The Craft! Along the way we discuss screaming Ouija boards, bad wigs, and why we're still scared to play Bloody Mary as grown ass adults. As always, the brave among you can find the Decoder Guide over on our Instagram. And remember, you're all final girl material in our books.

  • It Came From The Thrift Store...Fear Street Super Chiller: Goodnight Kiss
    Aug 21 2026

Velcome back, gentle souls! Ve promise ve von't suck your blood! That's right, we're talking vampires this week as we break down Goodnight Kiss, by R.L. Stine. It's a vampires-at-the-beach story that pairs well with Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys. And we get a little bit into theories of why some books capture your imagination and others don't.

  • A Clue For Scooby Doo: Scooby Doo, Where Are You? (Season 1, Episode 2)
    Aug 7 2026

Ruh-roh, gentle souls! This episode of Scooby Doo brings up Bethany's completely rational worry that if she ever scuba dives she'll get the bends and Jessica's childhood fear of being swept away in an undertow. We also talk more Shaggy Lore, discuss the questionable physics of cartoons, and desperately try to remember what the heck book we're reading for the next episode. Oh, and Bethany has a couple of suggestions for horror and horror-adjacent movies to pair with this episode of Scooby Doo, Where Are You?

What we're reading for the next episode: https://absolutehorror.fandom.com/wiki/Goodnight_Kiss

  • MadLibs: Jason Lives - Friday The 13th Part VI (1986)
    Jul 24 2026

We're playing MadLibs again! And because it's summer, we're talking about the most iconic summer camp horror franchise, Friday The 13th. Rather than starting at the beginning with 1980's titular film, Bethany decided to watch the 6th film in the series: 1986's Jason Lives. That's right, we're diving into the middles period of slashers. The formula was already becoming stale by this point, but we're still years away from reinvention's like Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) and Scream (1996).

Join us as Bethany breaks down the time that Friday The 13th dipped its toes in meta humour and leaned into dark comedy. Jess picks the MadLibs words this time, so the summary is truly random. If you're feeling brave and want to know all the gory details, you can find the Decoder Guide on Instagram.

  • Time Machine To November 1987: Stranger Things 5
    Jul 10 2026

It's the end of an era, gentle souls! Join us to discuss the final season of Stranger Things. We talk about the value of communal cinematic experiences, the difficulties of world-building through seasons of television with varying tones, and why Nancy Wheeler is one of our favourite fictional characters ever. As with all art, your mileage may vary. Ours certainly did. But ultimately, we found meaningful and cathartic moments that will stick with us.

  • It Came From The Thrift Store...Galaxy Of Fear #2: City Of The Dead
    Jun 26 2026

Bethany is breaking her "no talking about Star Wars on the internet" rule for this one...but really, it's easy to avoid the worst parts of Star Wars fandom when you're talking about Lucasfilm's shameless Goosebumps rip off, Galaxy of Fear! These books are fun genre mash ups that Jessica remembers fondly as favourites that she took out from the library in the late 90s.

Content Warning: City Of The Dead (and our discussion of it) contains mentions of child death, child endangerment, parental death, and grief. Take care of yourselves, gentle souls.
