Welcome to Scars and Stripes Inc: Unfiltered - The podcast where a veteran leads the conversation to speak truth, raw and real. We're cutting through the silence and stigma to talk openly about what happens after the uniform comes off. No scripts, no sugarcoating, just honest conversations about the realities of coming home, reintegrating into civilian life, and navigating a system that too often falls short. We tackle the hard stuff: the invisible wounds of war, the struggle to find purpose again, mental health, suicide, gaps in care, navigating benefits, and what it really means to be part of the veteran community today. If you’re looking for patriotic fluff or polished soundbites, this isn’t the place. If you want truth, connection, and a voice that reflects your experience, you’ve found your home. Whether you're a veteran, a loved one, or someone trying to understand, this is where we get real about the struggles and remind each other that we’re not alone.

  • Why We Started Scars and Stripes Unfiltered | Upstream Veteran Suicide Prevention
    Sep 1 2026

Jared and Tayler Eakin introduce their new studio and explain why they created Scars and Stripes Unfiltered alongside their nonprofit, Scars and Stripes (founded in 2023). Jared shares the conversation at the VA that led him to focus on upstream suicide prevention by addressing veterans’ life stressors and helping them navigate complex VA systems for needs like rent, utilities, prescriptions, job search, and gas. Tayler, an LCSW and emergency services coordinator at Ouachita Behavioral Health and Wellness, discusses isolation and hopes the podcast’s storytelling and education can reach people who are struggling. They describe the loss of identity and teamwork after leaving the military, the importance of putting veterans first in service work, and their goal to feature veterans, spouses, clinicians, and organizations in unfiltered conversations.
