  • Safety Team or Safety Ministry? Why the Difference Matters
    May 7 2026

What is the difference between a safety team and a safety ministry? In this episode, I talk about why that distinction matters more than people may think. This is about more than security, response, and readiness. It is about service, mindset, and what it means to protect the church without losing the heart of ministry.

  • Church Safety: The Sanctuary Blindspot (Welcoming vs Awareness)
    Apr 16 2026

This episode features Robert Siciliano, CEO of Protect Now LLC and the architect of the Strategic Human Firewall. You can learn more about his work at protectnowllc.com.

Churches are built on trust—but that same mindset can create blind spots.

In this episode, I’m joined by Robert Siciliano to break down what he calls the “Sanctuary Blindspot”—the tension between being welcoming and staying aware. We talk about why people lower their guard in church environments, how situational awareness gets mistaken for paranoia, and the real danger behind the mindset of “it won’t happen here.”

We also get into practical steps—what greeters and volunteers should actually be paying attention to, and how churches can stay approachable without becoming vulnerable.

And if you want to learn more about Robert and his work, you can find him at protectnowllc.com.

  • Church Security Insights from a Former FBI Agent & Pastor | Eric Robinson
    Mar 26 2026

In this episode of Sanctuary Peacemakers, I’m joined by Eric Robinson—a former FBI agent, SWAT operator, firearms instructor, and pastor—who brings a rare and valuable perspective on church safety.

Eric recently retired from the FBI after 24 years as a special agent, where he worked cases ranging from counterterrorism to crimes against children. Before that, he spent over a decade in Christian ministry, including serving as a pastor. That combination of experience in both ministry and federal law enforcement provides a unique lens on the realities churches face today.

In this conversation, we discuss how churches should think about safety and preparedness in practical terms—not just in response to worst-case scenarios, but in everyday situations that are far more likely to occur. Eric explains how planning ahead—much like in SWAT operations—can prevent the need for split-second decision-making during a crisis.

    We also cover:

    • The most common situations churches are likely to face (beyond mass shootings)

    • Warning signs that often appear before incidents escalate

    • How frameworks like Run, Hide, Fight (ALERRT) apply in a church setting

    • The differences between ALERRT and ALICE training

    • Why internal investigations in churches sometimes fail—and how that can be addressed

    • One practical step church leaders can take right now to improve preparedness

This conversation is not about fear—it’s about awareness, responsibility, and being better equipped to protect those we serve.
