In her youth, Solana Rowe did what she could to become estranged from her religion. She ditched wearing a hijab for fear of increased Islamophobia and as a result felt disconnected from her father. But when it came to expressing herself and when it came to laying bare her vulnerabilities through the catharsis of her music, Solana chose to be infinitely linked to Islam by adopting the stage name ‘SZA’.
