Remembering queer victims of the Nazi regime has been a path of struggle and ongoing conflict up to today. This episode will explore the hostile, unbearable continuation of the criminalisation of homosexuality in both German states after the war. It will highlight the brave voices of survivors who were persecuted under Paragraph 175, and the rise of homosexual activist groups in the GDR in the 1980s who fought for the recognition of queer victims.

In this podcast episode, we address different topics of being trans, especially focusing on the story of the trans woman Käte Rogalli in the NS regime. We discuss both the interwar and postwar period on overall transness before going into Käte Rogalli’s life. We end the podcast on a summary of the discussed topics, and the modern view and remembrance of trans identities.

In this episode of the queer remembrance podcast, we explore the situation of trans people under National Socialism along the life of R., a trans-woman. We are taking you along on a talk about the paragraphs that the Nazis used, their perception of trans people and how the different categories they used to assess the “Volksgemeinschaft“, affected trans people’s life. We close with a glimpse into Laurie Marhoefers “notion of risk” to describe the situation of trans people during National Socialism.
