🏓 What's Going On With Pickleball Balls? Are They Changing the Game?

Just when you thought you had your pickleball game figured out, the BALLS are changing!

In this episode of Pickleballers Next Door, Mike dives into one of the hottest conversations on the court: Why are pickleball balls changing, and what does it mean for the future of the sport?

From different brands and materials to changes in speed, bounce, durability, and overall performance, not all pickleballs are created equal. Some play faster, some feel softer, and others seem to crack before you've even warmed up!

Are manufacturers improving the game, or are all these changes making pickleball more confusing and expensive for everyday players?

🏓 Mike tackles the big questions:

• Why are pickleball manufacturers changing their balls?
• What's the difference between today's pickleball brands?
• How do speed, bounce, spin, and durability affect your game?
• Should recreational and professional players use the same ball?
• Are the new balls making pickleball better or worse?

Whether you're a weekend warrior, competitive tournament player, or just love a good game of pickleball, this conversation is for YOU!

We want to hear from you! What's your favorite pickleball ball? Have you noticed a difference between brands? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

Pickleball is everywhere. Millions of new players, courts popping up across the country, celebrity attention, pro leagues, paddle brands, and investors chasing the next big opportunity. But is pickleball building a lasting sports revolution—or are we watching a bubble inflate in real time?

In this episode, we take a closer look at the business behind the boom. Are indoor pickleball clubs and franchise operators investing too aggressively? Is the market becoming oversaturated? Can equipment brands, professional leagues, and court owners sustain their growth as the hype cools?

With U.S. participation reaching 24.3 million players in 2025, the sport's popularity is undeniable. But popularity doesn't guarantee profitability.

We'll separate the future of the sport from the future of the businesses betting on it, explore the warning signs, and ask the big question: Is the pickleball bubble about to burst, or is this just the next phase of its growth?

Whether you're a player, entrepreneur, investor, or simply curious about the pickleball phenomenon, this is a conversation about hype, money, and what happens when a booming sport meets reality.

🎧 Listen in—and decide for yourself: bubble or sustainable boom?

Pickleball started as a fun, social game — easy to learn, welcoming to beginners, and built around community. But as the sport has exploded in popularity, has something changed?

In Episode 87 of Pickleballers Next Door, Mike ask the question: Are we ruining pickleball?

We look back at how pickleball started and how the game has evolved from a backyard pastime into one of the fastest-growing competitive sports in the country. With more tournaments, ratings, leagues, money, sponsorships, paddle technology, and serious competition entering the game, are players starting to lose sight of what made pickleball so much fun in the first place?

We talk about pickleball etiquette, sportsmanship, line calls, arguments on the court, overly competitive players, recreational play versus tournament play, paddle tapping, court manners, beginners, advanced players, and the unwritten rules that help make pickleball enjoyable for everyone.

Has competition made pickleball better — or are we taking the game too seriously?

We also discuss how player attitudes have changed as the sport has grown, whether traditional pickleball etiquette is disappearing, and how we can keep the competitive side of pickleball without losing the friendships, laughter, and community that helped create the sport we love.

Whether you're a beginner, recreational player, tournament competitor, or longtime pickleball addict, this episode might have you asking yourself:

Are we growing pickleball… or are we ruining pickleball?

Listen in and tell us what YOU think.

This time, Mike dives into the gossip on the pickleball court — the conversations, drama, personalities, rumors, opinions, and funny situations that seem to happen anywhere pickleball players gather.

If you play pickleball regularly, you already know the court is about more than just dinks, drives, drops, and winning games. There is always something being talked about between matches.
