After finishing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Eric returns to the 2007 film with a whole new perspective!

As a lifelong fan who grew up loving the movies, Eric reflects on what makes the adaptation special, from Imelda Staunton's unforgettable Dolores Umbridge to the spectacular battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort.

But after experiencing the full story through the book, it's impossible to ignore what's missing. From the deeper relationships within the Order to Neville's heartbreaking family history, Sirius Black, and Harry's complicated relationship with Dumbledore, there's so much more to this story than what made it to the screen.

Plus, an important announcement about the future of Magic Muggle! With HBO's new Harry Potter series arriving this Christmas, Eric shares why the journey into Half-Blood Prince will wait until after Season 1, and what listeners can expect when Magic Muggle returns to Hogwarts.

Wands down, hearts full. 🪄

The wizarding world finally knows the truth: Voldemort is back.

In the final chapter of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry gets the vindication he spent an entire year fighting for—but after the loss of Sirius, none of it feels the way he imagined it would.

We talk about the Ministry’s sudden reversal, McGonagall’s return, Umbridge’s very satisfying exit, Sirius’s heartbreaking two-way mirror, Harry searching for answers about death, and the beautiful moment when Luna Lovegood gives him something nobody else can: a little bit of hope.

Then, as Harry leaves Hogwarts, Order of the Phoenix ends exactly where this story needs to—with Harry surrounded by people who believe him, will fight for him, and most importantly, love him.

Plus, we lay out what comes next for Magic Muggle: the Order of the Phoenix movie, our upcoming coverage of HBO’s Harry Potter, and why Half-Blood Prince will be waiting for us when Season One concludes.

Five books down. Two to go.

Wands down. Hearts full.

One chapter. A lifetime of answers.

After the devastating events at the Department of Mysteries, Harry returns to Dumbledore’s office overwhelmed by grief, guilt, and anger. But this time, Dumbledore finally stops holding back.

We break down why Dumbledore avoided Harry all year, how Voldemort’s trap really worked, the truth behind Harry’s protection at the Dursleys, Snape’s surprising role in trying to help—and, finally, the Lost Prophecy itself.

Because Harry wasn’t the only child it could have described.

Neville Longbottom could have been the one.

So why Harry?

Because Voldemort chose him.

And in trying to destroy the person he feared, he may have helped create him.

One chapter remains in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Wands down, hearts full.

The Ministry can no longer deny the truth—but Harry pays a heartbreaking price for it.

Dolores Umbridge finally gets exactly what’s coming to her—but escaping the Forbidden Forest is only the beginning.

This week on Magic Muggle, Eric continues his first-time journey through Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with Chapters 33 and 34, “Fight and Flight” and “The Department of Mysteries.”

Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Neville, and Luna make the choice to leave Hogwarts behind and fly straight toward what they believe could be a confrontation with Voldemort. But when they finally reach the Department of Mysteries, things become stranger by the minute: floating brains, a mysterious veil, rooms that seem to manipulate time—and an object that has apparently been waiting sixteen years for Harry Potter.

Sirius is nowhere to be found.

And somebody else has been waiting for Harry instead.

Spoilers through Chapter 34 of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix**.**

The O.W.L.s have finally arrived, and somehow Harry Potter has made standardized testing feel genuinely high-stakes.

As Harry, Ron, and Hermione survive exam season, Harry gets the chance to prove exactly how capable he is in Defense Against the Dark Arts — right in front of Dolores Umbridge. But the brief return to normal Hogwarts life doesn’t last long.

Hagrid is forced to flee, McGonagall is brutally attacked, and Harry experiences another terrifying vision: Sirius Black being tortured inside the Department of Mysteries.

Is Harry seeing something real, like he did with Arthur Weasley? Or has Voldemort finally figured out how to use Harry’s instinct to save people against him?

Meanwhile, Umbridge reveals just how far she’s willing to go — and Hermione Granger comes up with one of her smartest plans yet.

Eric reacts to Chapters 31, “O.W.L.s,” and 32, “Out of the Fire,” as Order of the Phoenix barrels toward its climax.

Harry is forced to confront an uncomfortable truth about James Potter after seeing Snape’s worst memory — and suddenly the father he idolized feels a lot more complicated.

Meanwhile, Professor McGonagall goes to war with Umbridge over Harry’s future, Fred and George leave Hogwarts in legendary fashion, and Hagrid reveals the absolutely reasonable secret he’s been hiding in the Forbidden Forest: a sixteen-foot giant half-brother named Grawp.

Eric breaks down Harry’s crisis over his father, why Sirius and Lupin’s defense of James only goes so far, the glory of Fred and George’s exit, Ron’s long-awaited Quidditch redemption, and why this might be Hagrid’s most irresponsible decision yet.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Chapters 27 and 28 push Hogwarts past its breaking point.

Firenze brings a warning from the stars—and a far more personal warning for Hagrid—before Marietta’s betrayal exposes the D.A. With Harry facing expulsion, Dumbledore takes responsibility, refuses to come quietly, and reminds the Ministry exactly who it has challenged.

But with Dolores Umbridge installed as headmistress, power spreads to the Inquisitorial Squad. Fred and George answer with glorious chaos, Harry’s visions of the Department of Mysteries deepen, his fragile romance with Cho collapses, and one reckless trip into Snape’s Pensieve changes everything he believed about James Potter.

Eric breaks down “The Centaur and the Sneak” and “Snape’s Worst Memory,” asking what people reveal about themselves when they finally possess the power to get away with anything.

Full spoilers through Chapter 28 only.
