Recently I was asked for a list of my favorite Self-Help books. I'm always adding new books to my favorites, but it has been a while since I thought about my 'greatest hits'! I decided to record a podcast series and begin with some of my first and favorite Self-Help titles. I share why I found them important and some of my essential takeaways, knowing you might get something completely different from them!

Today I cover five books that are ALWAYS on my shelf--

The Way to Love by Anthony DeMello

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

Yesterday I Cried by Iyanla Vanzant

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman

  • Ep. 20: The moment it clicked, thanks to Oprah!
    Mar 30 2022

Many of us who watched The Oprah Winfrey Show during the 25 years it aired learned about things we'd never experienced. But how many of us learned about something AS we experienced it?? In today's episode, I share a story I've never shared before--- About the time I was watching Oprah and using the guest's advice in REAL-TIME! And it worked! But not only that, this particular episode changed the course of my young life. There's a bonus story about my dad as well.

I'd love to know if you've had a similar experience to mine. Did you watch Oprah as a kid in the 80s, 90s, or 2000s??

    Xo,

    Sarah

  • Ep. 17: [BOOK REVIEW] Women, Food, and Hormones
    Mar 16 2022

Once I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease and Hypothyroidism, I started on a quest to rid myself of the worst of the many symptoms: a large amount of weight gain in my mid-section. It wasn't until I read Dr. Sara Gottfried's book, Women, Food, and Hormones, that I found any kind of success. On her protocol, I lost over 10 pounds in 4 weeks.

The book is written in two parts: Understanding Women, Food, and Hormones and the Protocol (detoxification, ratios, recipes, and resources). Much of the information in part 1 I knew about, having seen Functional Medicine Doctors in the past, but many women have not had the good fortune to find a doctor willing to spend hours on their file as I have. However, I did learn about Human Growth Hormone and how I was probably responsible for its decline, as a result of my hectic lifestyle.

Part 2 is meant to be followed for 4 weeks with a transition period. The recipes included are fairly simple and the plan is easy to follow.

I recommend this book for anyone curious about how hormones impact women and how food can be one of the tools for bringing them back into balance!
