Labor Day weekend is here once again; that means chasing trains with family and friends. We imagine one of these moments will be an RS event on the most famous piece of Railroading in the East: the Blue Ridge Grade on the main line of the Norfolk and Western. Passenger trains thunder up the mountain behind new versions of J Class 4-8-4s with deep-throated whistles. And of course, the freight trains laboring uphill with the traditional steam locomotive arrangement: a doubleheader up front and a helper on the rear. The massive A Class 2-6-6-4s and powerful Y Class 2-8-8-2s work as a team, hauling modern tonnage the same way their predecessors did in the 1940s and 1950s. This will be a Labor Day weekend with N&W steam you don't want to miss.
