À propos de ce contenu audio

Welcome to a place where current and retired law enforcement and first responders can kick off their boots and listen to stories, get my take on law enforcement and the world today, and give suggestions on future episodes and topics. I am a retired Kentucky State Police Master Trooper with 24 1/2 years of experience working as a road Trooper, Accident Reconstructionist, Defensive Tactics and ASP Instructor, and Dignitary Protection for two Governors. I retired with no intention of returning to police work, but a chance encounter with the sheriff in my county led me to take a School Resource Officer position in 2023 in an elementary school.

I also enjoy talking about the world I grew up in as a Gen-Xer born in 1969. I grew up in the '70s and '80s, when tI have many stories from family vacations and holiday shenanigans that would rival National Lampoon's. I also share a perspective of growing up in the Appalachian mountains of Southeastern KY, where my Pops was a coal miner for 20 years. I even wrote a fiction book called The Last Mine that featured a character (Dale) modeled after my dad.

Pull up a chair, as I would love for everyone who needs some therapy or just a place to listen and laugh to find their way here. I am also a die-hard fan of the Steelers, Pirates, and Pens, but I love sports talk in general.

  • The Beast and...The Backstreet Boys?

Picture this: Two dozen Secret Service agents and State Police Executive Security Troopers, all in black suits, stone-faced and ready for anything... while secretly harmonizing to a 90s boy band banger behind a curtain. It sounds like a movie, but it was just another Tuesday on the Governor’s Detail.

In this episode of Into The Gray, DK Hall pulls back the curtain on the "masks" worn in law enforcement and the unexpected ways officers maintain their sanity. We’re going inside the most secure vehicle on the planet—The Beast. Experience the "expensive silence" of a 400-pound armored door and the high-stakes "clean stress" of a Presidential motorcade.

But as any road veteran knows, silence isn't always a luxury; sometimes, it’s the enemy. From the adrenaline-pumping riffs of Metallica to the quiet reflection of Creed, we explore the "soundtrack of the shield" and the music that helps us take the mask off at the end of a shift. Whether you’re protecting the Leader of the Free World or patrolling a dark county road at 3:00 AM, everyone needs a bridge back to humanity.

    Join us for the ride.

  • Episode Three: Things That Go Thump In The Night, Into The Gray With DK Hall Podcast
    Feb 18 2026

The Academy doesn't prepare you for everything. They teach you how to clear a corner. They teach you to be ready for the gun, the knife, or the ambush. They don't have a simulator for the moment you realize the 'thump-thump' behind the door isn't your typical person—it’s something much, much bigger.

Join me for Episode 3 as we walk into a residence that felt like a horror movie and ended like a fever dream. This is why we call it 'The Gray.'

Thank you so much for listening!

  • Episode 2: "Did You Find The Body?"
    Feb 4 2026

I climbed until I reached the lone back window sill. I could barely make out the unmistakable but motionless shape on the floor.

We cleared the dogs away from the front door and moved in, our flashlights cutting through the stale air. As we reached the end of the first wall, my partner froze. Pale as a ghost—he just mouthed it to me: ‘SCREAM MASK!

Welcome to the front seat of a gray cruiser in Appalachia. A Gen-X retired KY Trooper sharing the raw, harrowing, and occasionally hilarious stories that stay with you long after the sirens stop. No fancy studio—just real calls, and life lessons from the mountains and beyond.
