  • Charlie Fotheringham Interview
    Nov 13 2025

    Welcome back to another podcast chatting to artists about their life and work! This time I’m talking to a young, local-to-me artist called Charlie, aka Howler Productions. We chat all things to do with finding your style and your voice, finding an audience and feeling free to express your true self. We also chat about the fact that Charlie has his first ever art exhibition coming up, and how he’s been preparing for that.

    We chat a lot about Charlie’s influences in this episode, and I think a lot of them will be things many people aren’t familiar with, so here are a few links to explore as well.

    First up, a good overview of the amazing Czech animator we discuss,

    Jan Swankmajer: https://youtu.be/OwwGw01kEbM?si=0HKV2udS6mtFTfuw

    Oh, also Charlie’s own award winning animation (TW Suicide themes): https://youtu.be/dDllY3abNE0?si=fcexKeQ78pa8ZKIk

    Charlie’s artist picks:

    @dont_jinxit

    @jayrnski

    @awdtwit

    @eddyatoms

    @donavantheraccoon

    @frambuesa_st

    and finally, the film by our mate Mickey Murray:

    Mind Set movie: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mind-Set-Eilis-Cahill/dp/B0CJLZ2FX7

    Enjoy listeners!

  • Episode 5: Tony Nero
    Sep 12 2025

    After a bit of a delay, due to extreme busyness on my part, Indigo Artists is back, with our first ever man! Peterborough based artist and all round lovely human Tony Nero. He and I chat about his very diverse artistic practise, whether you need to define what kind of artist you are, plus he reveals a shocking Goya fact! (possibly) We also get into how some good friends encouraged Tony out of his artistic comfort zone and opened up some exciting new opportunities for him, and the extra responsibility of being a role model in the community as an artist of colour. Give it a listen - lots of great stuff here.

    Sorry for the slightly less than ideal sound on this one - I’m still learning as I go!

    Check out Tony’s art on Instagram: @artoftonynero

    As always, check out our gallery on Instagram: @indigocrow gallery, and me, your host here: @hannahabstracts.

    You can also find lots of info about upcoming exhibitions at the gallery on our website: www.indigocrowgallery.com

    Thanks as always to Michael Kheng for tech support.

  • Lucy McElroy
    Jun 30 2025

    After a brief hiatus due to crazy busy lives all round, the podcast that chats to artists is back! This time we have the fabulous Lucy McElroy - a former art teacher turned full time portrait artist. I went out to speak to Lucy in her gorgeous garden studio in a village just outside Lincoln, where we were only slightly disturbed by her lovely dog Coco!

    Lucy takes us through the process of working on amazing commissions of people’s loved ones, how she handles the intense pressure to create an exact likeness of the clients nearest and dearest, and what she likes to work on when she isn’t making art to others very specific requirements.

    Lucy’s exhibition at Indigo Crow gallery will run from July 8th-20th, all the details on our website - www.indigocrowgallery.com.

    Lucy’s work can be found on Instagram: @lucy.mcelroy.artist or on her website: www.lucymcelroy.co.uk.

    If you want to check out my work, I hang out here: @hannahasbtarcts.

    Enjoy!

    Thanks as always to Michael Kheng and once again Mel Langton rode to the rescue with some crucial tech support! Thanks guys!

  • Eve Marshall Artisan Felter
    Mar 18 2025

    In this episode of the podcast I’m talking to another of the Indigo Crow gallery co-owners, eve Marshall. Eve describes herself as an “Artisan Felter”, meaning she makes stunning images of the floral and fauna of the natural world using wool and a host of other materials that she skillfully combines into unique artworks. we have a good chat about her almost photographic recall of things she sees and how that then translates into a finished artwork - with a lot of playful “faffing” in between. We also take a deep dive into the real nitty gritty of selling artwork, how to talk to people about your work when the hard sell isn’t your style, and just how to make making art stack up financially. Next time, I’ve promised a non Indigo Crow gallerist as it’s time for a bit of variety, but for now, enjoy this deeply informative chat with one of “the Crows”!

    Eve’s work can be seen at her current exhibition at Indigo Crow gallery- all details available here: www.indigocrowgallery.com and you can find out a lot more about Eve’s work at her website - www.evemarshall.co.uk and on her Instagram @evefaffs.

    Thanks to Michael Kheng for tech support, and Mel Langton with the same!

  • Episode 2: Mel Langton
    Jan 28 2025

    In Episode two of this new podcast, we’re chatting to artist and illustrator Mel Langton. Mel creates artwork based in large part on her love of creating characters - often feisty empowered young women, although she also does lots of work creating special custom portraits of a wide range of people. She also explains how taking over a project when another artists dropped out took her out of her comfort zone and opened up a whole new avenue of work for her!

    Listen in as Mel and podcast host Hannah have a (slightly meandering) chat about the secret to finding commercial opportunities, how a new hobby helped Mel find the context in which everything clicked in her art practise, and why cheese might just be the most beautiful thing in the world - or is it??

    Also included, what’s been happening at Indigo Gallery since the start of the year and a little look forward to what’s coming next!

    If you want more info about the gallery, go visits our website: www.indigocrowgallery.com

    More info about Mel, first interviewee for the podcast Sally, and podcast host Hannah can be found on their instagram pages: @mellangtonart, @skboldart and @hannahabstracts.

  • Episode 1 : The Reboot.
    Jan 17 2025

    This is the very first episode of our new podcast, re-posted after having the audio scrubbed of all the annoying background noise that was present in the first version due to my rookie technical mistakes! Here you have the same great content - an interview with landscape painter Sally Kheng plus me generally introducing the podcast aims, and a bit of background about the gallery that the podcast takes it’s name from - Indigo Crow. Start here if you’re new to the podcast, or want to listen again with improved sound!

    Many thanks to Michael Kheng with his support with this new and improved version.

    Episode two coming very soon!
